Thank you for bringing this evolutionary deployment method into the mainstream!!!

Sometimes the other timeworn methods are just too hard to deploy with gloves on...with flippers deployment is 100%. I'm sure all other gloved professionals (Soldiers, EMTs, Cops, Construction Workers Etc.) would like to thank you as the flipper is the most efficient and failure free deployment method!

Wet fingers, oily fingers, smashed fingers it doesn't matter, 100% full deployment 100% of the time!

...and it becomes a guard without any added parts, genius!!!

Flipper was created by Jack Cowden and Ricou Browning in 1964. :D

Seriously, I think Ken Onion did more than most to popularize it.

There's a reason it's called the "Carson Flipper".

unfortunately the flipper method is more prone to failure in adverse conditions, and with gloves on, as it takes much more tactile dexterity to open. if you short shuck it because it's slippery, or your glove didn't line up correctly you might not even realize the lock didn't engage.

but nothing is fool proof, and it's a pretty cool method which at first glance even appears to open quicker than using your thumb. ;)

I can deploy a flipper much more reliably when wearing gloves than any stud/hole opening knife. Hit the flipper, roll the wrist just to be sure, and feel the lock engage.

A flipper is a solution to a problem I don't have or a cute toy to impress and/or scare the natives. You know, like AO. Any resistance to opening like a bit of pocket lint in the wrong place and you're half open and either swinging it wildly to get it to lock or grabbing the blade to open by hand. Simpler is better. Also, it leaves the flipper in the way for some cutting tasks so you can't rock it down and use all the blade, other than the OD-1 which gives no hanging flipper but relies on a rattly mechanism. I'll stick with my holes, thank you.

I thought a moderator had banned blixxx a couple days ago for flipper trolling! haha I like flippers, when they work. On my Kershaw Skyline (brown/black), the flipper doesn't work without a good amount of wrist flick. The Kershaw Raw, and CRKT Ripple on the other hand are great flippers.

Nice attempt at trolling.

I'm not sure how in your world the flipper gets in the way of cutting task...the flipper, as a guard, sits right where my index finger is when deployed...so your telling me that quarter inch of flipper that's against my finger is somehow messing up cutting chores....hmmm cool story bro. Again, Nice attempt at trolling.

the only trolling that's going on are you three quoted here. And if your flipper has to work with a wrist flip then you paid way too much for your over priced knife. My cheapest flipper, a Sanrenmu, opens upside down, sideways, any angle with ZERO wrist flip and it cost $11.

I Think we all see you are in LOVE with flippers thats cool but it is NOT the best knife invented, the best knife is the one the user handles the best, not tryin to be judgmental but I personally think its bad form to keep starting threads on the same subject just to try to force people to agree with you..

Not trying to force anything on anyone, just praising Inventors of the FLIPPER, Kit Carson, and all knife companies offering them.

Thanks for trolling.

I've picked up a Les Voorhies flipper as a combined gift for Fathers Day one year, and it hasn't left his pocket since. The action is smooth, and his customs are pretty cool IMO.. Unfortunately, I don't own any flippers currently, but might acquire one in the near future. They are fun, and I could see why they are good functioning knives :)

blixxx,

When you can't accept other people's opinions without accusing them of trolling that's usually a good time to step away from the keyboard.

Nice attempt at trolling.

So peeps posting anti-flipper stuff in a praise the flipper thread is not trolling?

Flippers are fun to play with, but I still prefer a thumb hole above all.I rarely feel the need to "speed deploy" any folder I'm carrying.

You started a thread about flippers (more than one actually) and other members are sharing their opinions and experiences with flippers. These are on topic posts. You only want people who agree with you 100% to post in your threads? Good luck with that.

I prefer flippers as well. I think they are much easier to open with my gloves on. I can't count how mant times my glove has gotten in the way trying to open a thumbstud knife. Looking forward to the kershaw 566 now.
