But Flipper can float alongside my boat!

I don't need flippers to open my knives fast. Haste makes waste. If I need to suppress an assailant, I hit'em with my cane.

But I like flippers. Fun. Which is most of what I carry knives for. Got a black Shallot in my pocket right now. Only way to open it is with the flipper, no wave, no disc, no stud. Purity of arms ...
I've noticed that some knives with flippers are coated. Can you recommend a good stripper for flippers? Also, is there a particular dipper to use for flipper stripper?

A flipper is a solution to a problem I don't have or a cute toy to impress and/or scare the natives. You know, like AO. Any resistance to opening like a bit of pocket lint in the wrong place and you're half open and either swinging it wildly to get it to lock or grabbing the blade to open by hand. Simpler is better. Also, it leaves the flipper in the way for some cutting tasks so you can't rock it down and use all the blade, other than the OD-1 which gives no hanging flipper but relies on a rattly mechanism. I'll stick with my holes, thank you.

Do you have actual experience with a flipper? if so what was it?

Your abrasive opening line is clearly a troll tactic and your examples of cons for the flipper method are both non-extant in all the flippers I own (about 10) and one particular flipper which has been edc'ed for 18 months and often lint riddled but still functions perfectly via the flipper.

If you find the flipper to get in the way of cutting tasks, maybe you should try using the sharpened edge of the blade and not the handle for cutting.

Until Monday I had three Kershaw flippers, OD-1 Zing and Skyline, purchased on clearance at Wally World a few years ago for about $30 apiece. Good, solid values, made in America, reasonable steel and sized just right for light summer carry. Monday I received a fourth, a Zing black blade tanto. I would prefer that these knives had full sized studs or holes but I've learned to deal with the flippers. As I mentioned, the flippers get in the way when cutting on a flat surface holding in pinch grip (other than on the OD-1 which has a fiddly mechanism that rattles) and if not kept properly adjusted and clean can hang up half way out. I prefer to keep complete control of the blade all the way to the open position and feel it lock.

As for "using the sharpened edge of the blade and not the handle for cutting", welcome to the troll club.

Some people are like broken records. I am as well. My favorite Spyderco Military's have an enlarged hole for opening while wearing gloves. Would not trade them for a flipper for any reason under the sun.

Yeah, this adds absolutely nothing to this thread, thanks for trolling.

Anyone else getting a Peewee Herman flashback from this thread?

And I thought a flipper was someone who bought knives only to sell them at a profit. Guess I'm a troll. (*_*)

I want a flipper stripper!

If I had one I bet my Kershaw Skyline would flip faster.

All my Skylines have flipped effortlessly. Have you tried polishing up the pivot area? It turned my 0350 from flipping decently to buttery smooth with no wrist flick needed.

Since this discussion has become about trolling and not about flippers, it no longer belongs in General Knife Discussion. Whine & Cheese can provide its own material, so I will simply close this and leave it here.
