My daughter (35) has had 3 surgeries this summer, two this past month for Staph. It has been diagnosed as a drug resistant strain. She is on a last resort antibiotic right now, but the Doctor gleefully informed her his last patient with this spent 16 days in the hospital and then died. We are trying to get her to an infectious disease specialist in another town. He is the same idiot that did the cutting on her, refused to give her antibiotics, and said her immune system would eventually kill it. But changed his mind TWO WEEKS later when the infection is running rampant through her body. Needless to say we are hunting another Doctor. She needs all the prayers of my friends can muster up.

Thanks for letting me vent and ask for prayer at the same time.
Jim

Prayers sent. My wife had this and it is serious. She wound up having to have knee surgery to remove the infection and then a month of I.V. antibiotic with home healthcare coming everyday. She had to use a walker (like old people use) just to stand up. She missed 6 weeks work and we are still paying the bills a year later. I consider us lucky. She is fine now...but please take this very seriously.

One of the problems is my daughter is stubborn. She is STILL working, her husband and I are getting her medical records sent to the specialist in Birmingham tomorrow. We may have to tie her down to get her to go, she is getting weaker by the day and the size of her lymph nodes are getting bigger daily. Like I said prayers are needed for her in more ways than one. I love her, but she has always done it her way.
Thank you for your prayers and concern.

Jim, I spent a month on intravenous antibiotics in Mt. Sinai in NYC for the same thing. I got through that but when it hit me again a few years later, I lost my right foot to it.

Your daughter has my sincerest wishes for a complete and rapid recovery, but she will need to go with the meds and maybe the enforced hospital time. This is deadly. She does not have time to wait on her system to heal by itself.

I have copied and pasted all of the comments in this thread and sent them to my daughter and her husband.
I do appreciate your prayers, I hope she will read and KNOW it is serious and go to the right specialist.

Thank You all,
Jim

Prayers sent from San Diego.

These resistant strains of staph are very deadly. The son of a friend of mine spent a major stint in the hospital fighting one off. Your daughter needs to drop what she is doing and get to somebody who knows how to deal with this stuff IMMEDIATELY.

Wow Jim, so sorry to hear this. Thoughts and prayers headed your way for a speedy and complete recovery.

James, don't give her any options. Tell her she's going to the doctor and that's that. What she has is very serious and she needs to see the right doctor to get it taken care of.

Jim,

I've got some prayers heading her way. Best of luck to her and your family.

Prayers sent. Nothing worse than hearing those things from a doctor, get her to the specialist IMMEDIATELY far less serious matters can kill. That being said, best wishes for her to recover fully and quickly.

I managed a shaving cut with that super bug. It got me hospitalised same day and operated on. I drove to the GP then immediately to the specialist at the hospital for consultation. I phoned my wife and asked her to bring my kit and someone to take my car home. No waiting.

IV antibiotics etc. Evil stuff. Have a cheek scar that fortunately was not disfiguring.

Our prayers are with you.
