can anybody point me to a good strop making thread?

I would use waxed thread, but don't why you'd want to sew anything.

Step 1. Glue some leather to a piece of wood.
Step 2. put some compound on the leather side.

Reference this thread, post #241.

Real funny, but thanks lol

ah, but which one? seems there were a series of official jackets...

turns out Alpha, in Knoxville makes a McGyver field jacket again. they were out of stock last year. not this year. yoink! thanks Amazon!

i like that shirt and vest Ethan got me, the Becker one, if they made a jacket like that, it would be awesome.
Surplus, woodland camo, removable quilted liner.

I've been asked to start teaching CPR/First Aid at work, since we all have to stay certified. Wondering how that would fly in a class...

Depends on who's listening.

Well now with the latest standard of "no breaths" it's a moot point, but I would tell my students that ALL CPR subjects vomit. It's a fact of life (death?) and not to be surprised by it or think that you did something "wrong".

By definition they're dead, or you wouldn't be doing CPR. What possible additional harm could you do? :D

Here is my only picture, and it's crap. On that trip I had forgotten the liner thinking the temperature would hover around about 60, not 40.

I'm nowhere near that black in real life. :p

Oh, absolutely. If it needs to be used, it's worth it.

Are you teaching Red Cross or AHA for training material? I much prefer AHA, to be honest, but we're using Red Cross at work. AHA just seems to be a little more current with all of their methods...or they are driving the changes and Red Cross catches up. Any training is better than none, though, so I'm glad we're doing it.

can anybody point me to a good strop making thread?

I just used a old hunk of leather belt and a nice flat hunk of hardwood flooring I had laying around. Then held it on with a C clamp. I reckon you could use some double sided carpet tape to stick it to the wood and that would work well and would be easy to remove. Then I just used polishing compound that I got from depot or lowes I can't remember. I am sure there are better options out there but it works for me.

I don't really recall ever seeing a really good thread on this. Could be I missed it, but I think it is such an easy process that it kinda doesn't really need to be made. For my strop, here are the materials used:

1 leather belt (full leather about .25" thick, not several layers glued together)
2 heavy duty paint stir sticks from lowes
1 bottle contact cement
a bajillion bulldog clips (binder clips, etc...)
1 bottle wood glue

I took the two paint stir sticks (these ones were about 16 inches long or so) and glued them together one on top of the other so as to make a half inch thick wooden stick paddle thingy. Then I coated one side in the contact cement, and the backside of the belt in contact cement. I let that dry for around 10 minutes or so (the bottle told me how long) and then I put the two together, and used the bulldog clips to hold it in place, hung it on the wall, and forgot about it until the next day. Add compound to the leather bit and Robert is your father's brother.

Will work with any chunk of leather and any chunk of flat wood. Nothing to it really.

I left my strop free floating - didn't really see the need to affix it to any wood. I can always rest it on my desk or thigh or something and this way, I can pack it without worrying about breaking its backing. Here is the amazing process in picture form (this is a snark thread, is it not?) ...

I bet that $20 would hold compound nicely, but no better than a $1.
