So the technician just came and hooked up my xfinity internet but i still have clear wireless for a couple more days as well. so i compared the 2 internet speeds with speedtest.net. with clearwire internet my speed was 3.99mbps download and .9mbps upload speed but with xfinity it was 47.89mbps download and 9.8mbps upload on the first test.. holy shit thats a huge difference!!!

But with clear its steady and every test is pretty close to the same, with xfinity it changes by quite a bit each time i test it and freezes during some test and sometimes when trying to load a new page. why would it vary so much and if its faster (according to the test) why does it freeze up more?

Help me out computer and IT guys.....

The freezing probably has more to do with your internet browser than your internet, or even your computer. When you put a computer under load, unless you have a very deep grasp of what you have running and very fine control over that, you would have variations from test to test based on what else is running in the background, ranging from updates to indexing, all of which will tax your processor differently and affect how fast the testing runs, as well as freezing. In any event, going by average is more accurate than by a series of individual results.

We have xfinity to. On my computer it never freezes, but then again I have 2tb. of memory and about 16 gigs of RAM so the thing never freezes no matter how many programs I'm running. It gets slow but never freezes. Internet speed varies from computer to computer and how many downloads your making in my experience.

I have 126 proof, no idea what that is in RAM.

my computer isnt freezing.... but when i tried to load a few pages they just didnt load like the page froze. im not having that problem now tho. i have 5 browsers open right now running fine. and my kids are streaming netflix as well.

I only have 4 gig ram, 600gig hard drive and triple-core proccessor built in my laptop but it seems to be plenty for anything i need.

i dont know crap about computers really but is there a way to find out if my laptop can take more ram? without taking it apart? i have a box full of ram, hdds, and a couple disc drives just sitting in a closet somewhere and if it can fit i guess adding more wouldnt be bad.....

And i never even heard of proofs in refrence to computers, but 10 terra-gigs sounds like more memory than all of us need 2gether

What's the laptop brand / model and how much does it have in it now?

It says it has 4 gig. it is a HP dv7 amd phenom N830 2.10GHz triple core proccessor? thats what it says on the system page anyway...

All i know is theres a keyboard, a screen, a mousepad, dvd drive and fingerprint reader... and thats all i mess with lmao

It also has blu-ray built in but for some reason after an update went thru blu-rays arent recognized anymore but regular dvds are, also burned movies use to work but now show as blank disc. i gave up with it....

You probably can replace them. ETA just opened up my laptop, turns out I only have 8 gig's. Oh well. Time to take a trip to the computer store :D

Do you know if it has 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows? If it's 32-bit, it will only use 3GB max, anyway. If it's 64-bit, then you can probably get 2x3GB or 2x4GB chips and swap them with the one's in there. There's usually a little "door" on the bottom of the laptop (might even have a RAM chip graphic on it) that you pull the screw out of and the existing RAM just pops out. However, I've seen some HP's that actually have the RAM under the keyboard. I'm not a big fan of HP and their design.

Check the type for your specific model here, since there are so many different models of the DV7. http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP-memory/Pavilion+DV7+Series-models.html

I'll admitt I don't know squat about computers. However, I hope you nerds get it figured out because I'm going to need guidence this spring when I get my tax check. Wifey and I are gonna buy a new laptop to help with both of our little buisnesses. So. Help a idiot out (that being me) :D

Ok cool man thanks! i know it says 64 bit and that link has a bunch of different #s on it lmao

Jeez. And I haven't even put out the bird feeder yet. That's when he usually pounces.

good stuff :) i like watching the birdies feed.

i've a few really good hawk feeding pornos in my general images / nature / Spring/Summer/Fall in the last few years, as well as a great many birds. some of you have seen them. some not. they're there to gaze upon.
