3.5 to 5~5.5 inch. Most of my current fixed blades are 3.9 ~ 4.1 inch. I've never needed larger when in the sticks/boonies.
I don't/didn't use my knife to split wood or make kindling. I usually find/found plenty of dry kindling where the tent was going to be pitched, along with twigs I can/could whittle into a feather stick if necessary.
Tried a Buck 119 ... a great knife ... one of Buck's most popular fixed blades - if not the most popular fixed blade they produce. However, I found the blade too large for what I needed. I traded it for a pair of resoled leather western boots and steel horseshoe heel plates to the (now late ☹️) local leathersmith/shoemaker. (he also did saddles.)

I have fixed blade knives that I carry/use that vary in length from a 1" karambit to a 12" machette but most of the fixed blades in my collection are 3.5-6" long.

Which I "prefer" to carry/use depends on the intended task.

This.

But my most represented blade lengths in my collection are in the 3.5"-4.25" range. It's the most generally useful for the stuff I tend to do the most.

If I could do everything with a 4 inch fixed blade that’s what I would prefer but there’s times when a 5 inch does better and it’s not so long that it’s awkward to work with. I have several 4.5 inch blades and they are what I use most often for utility/ camping/ multi purpose tasks and still do well for hunting and fishing.

Every knife has its limitations and that’s why I have several different types and sizes. I’d be severely challenged if I could only have one.

I voted 6-6.999” but my preference is really more 5.5” - 6.5” roughly.

My EDC has a 6 5/8” blade (Buck 124) and my prior EDC had a 6” blade (Buck 119). Apart from those two, my other favorite and most used knives have a 5.25” blade (Becker BK2) and a 6.5” blade (a custom from Gollik Knives).

I'm going to say 16". Because my favorite knife of all time to carry in the woods is a 16" blade. My favorite "small" knife is just about 4" though, so I'll vote that in your poll.

Dude... we are not worthy!! 😁
By the way: what's the blade length on your Prevail models?
THAT one could also make the EDC "short list"!
