Here's what I came up with after 15 min of thought and googling.
zombie.jpg

Keep it quiet and practical. No big swords because being good with one isn't easy; simpler to brain them with crowbar hammer. Crowbar obviously useful. Hatchet for large material processing, larg-ish but not overkill knife for everything else. Silenced .22 for easier access to ammo. strong slingshot for adaptability.

Id keep a vehicle with an external gas tànk and drive north and use mother nature as a weapon frozen is frozen.

What is this easy access to .22 ammo you guys are talking about?

Ya no crap. I've been on a waiting list for 3 months for 2000 rounds. But if it actually shows up it was $.04 a round so would be happy. 22 in stores is a joke $.08 round and can only buy 4 boxes at a time. No thanks. I've lost my desire for 22. Plus doesn't have much practical use anyways. Squirrels and small birds.

Honestly just what I hear from friendly gun lovers. As far as stopping power goes it really doesn't matter as long as it can get through the skull. It's useless to shoot zombies anywhere else.
Also lugging heavy gear is a big con, I'll stick with a small caliber pistol.

Double machetes in custom sheath, 24 inches models. Those would act as cheap and realistic Double Daos, wich I know how to use from xingyi, bagua, and chen taiji training.
SO FEAR ME, YOU ZOMBIES!
Then a belt utility carbon steel knife like a usmc mark whatever kabar, or a becker 7, or an esee 6.

And a shotgun. Something for long range big kill zone gun. Lupara style.

I would try some tactical gloves and light body armor, if feasible, in order to avoid contagion by bitting and blood splatter.

A really thought out backpack...

When it comes to the zombie apocalypse I have no illusions; I'll be shambling around gnawing on my own hand. I may have a SAK in the pocket of my torn and filthy jeans.

Illinois North suburbs, border of Wisconsin. I find 550rd boxes all day for around $20...

F-ing A. Really? Lately? Good for you. Lucky. I might take a road trip to IL or WI. How many 550 boxes they let you buy a day and how long are they around cause it can't be long? Everybody i know shoots 22 and cant find crap but maybe thats why. Everybody's buying it and its at crappy prices when its around. $4.00 for a box of 50. More than double you get with the 550 for $20. Where do you get it? What's the secret?:D I NEED TOO KNOW!:) No joke is it really readily available all day like you say cause would take a trip to get it if can buy in bulk?

Yeah but during zombie apocalypse theres gonna be people trying to kill you too and shooting a much bigger caliber at you and dont think a 22 is gonna cut it. Lots of the time will just ricochet off the skull and barely penetrate anything on the body either and even if it does the damage it does barely nothing. But thats just me. You got a point with the heavyness of the ammo though.

I hear you, but a gun fight is like a knife fight. The loser dies at the scene and the winner will probably die on the way to hospital. In a survival situation with no facilities any injury can prove fatal. In an ambush though almost any weapon will do.
That being said, in a zombie situation since humans are potentially more dangerous I'd try my best to not start fights. I guess my main priority would be survival rather than fighting; which is why I wouldn't want a shmancy sword etc. Hunting rifle would probably be best type of gun in general. (for hunting edible game of course, avoid attracting attention of zombies whenever possible)

Well, this sounds to me like a perfect Cold Steel marketing opportunity. Finally, a use for my Katana Machete and GI Tanto!

Might as well throw in a CRKT Ultima 7 too, and a Ka-bar D2 Extreme. Oh, and a Dead On Annihilator.

Guns would be a nice bonus, as long as a bayonet is part of the deal.

What's with all the negativity about zombies?

Zombies are the ultimate underclass. You can do just about anything with them and nobody would care. They are both perpectual motion machines begging to be harvested or self delivering biofuel on the foot. Just ring a bell and they will pack a firebox for you all day long. The potential is near limit less, it is just a question of applying a little entrepreneurship and imagination. With a little branding you can assemble crates of Bomb-be-Gone and sell them to anyone who needs to clear an inconvenient mine field. With just a little preparation they would make excellent neighborhood dog walkers and you wouldn't even need to tip them. Then there is the considerable entertainment value spanning everything from target practice to gladitorial and bear baiting. I believe that all of these zombie movies are way too negative and defeatist. They fail to harvest the true bounty that would be provided by a zombie apocalypse.
