I work on machinery for my regular job so I might be a bit more adventures than you're willing to be. I would pull it apart to see what happened and if there might be debris left in the lines if it was a bad failure. Depending on the failure you may need to flush the lines to prevent future problems, you don't want to leave hunks of broken junk in there. At very least you may want to change filters if you have them on the line.
Yup, they always seem to go down at the worst time. Can't really blame the distributor or even the OEM. Stuff just happens and we need to chug along and make the best of it.
