Pretend you're a billionaire. Which folder do you buy for actual use?

Probably a Scott Cook Lochsa folder, especially since he's not taking orders for new ones right now.

I'd like to see a large Case toothpick with mother of pearl handle scales and CV blade. Seems like the CV developing a patina would add character to such a pristine knife.

Ok, I'll play. If I was a billionaire and money was not an issue, this is what I would do.

I'd buy 20 each of the following knives:
- Strider SMF CC
- Large Sebenza
- Small Sebenza
- Umnumzaan
- 3.5" XM-18 (non flipper)
- 3.0" XM-18 (non-flipper)

I would rotate these knives and at the end of each day, my assistant (a smoking hot girl with a PHD in blade sharpening) would clean and sharpen the knife (or knives) used on that particular day. After using a knife 20 times, I would create a giveaway post on Bladeforums and buy another one of the same model.

Meanwhile, I would hire a team of scientists to work exclusively in trying to come up with a type of steel that would never require sharpening. If they succeeded, I'd call this new product unobtainium, increase my fortune and become a trillionaire.

At that point, I'd fire my smoking hot PHD in blade sharpening and hire Megan Fox as my assistant.

I'd commission a collaboration between Walter Brend (grinds, blade finish), Tim Galyean (Timascus framelock, bearing system, detent), and Butch Vallotton (make it D/A with a mokume firing overlay scale and backspacer).

I will use the ones that come as a package deal with sports cars that I will be collecting :)

I would start carrying simple, one hand opening lockbacks with steels like 15V, M48, M30, M3, and other unusual steels run about as hard as possible. Example, M48 at RC 70.

Fun stuff like that.

No jewels, art knives or anything of the sort. Just boring knives that performed and felt good in the hand.

Like old Can Am racers, nothing is too outlandish to try once if it means more performance.

Great question but I would stay with the Spyderco Delica I carry now. It's been very good to me and always does what I need.

Allright, so if I'm a billionaire.. I'll go and buy a couple of knife making factories with all the equipment you could think of, hire a bunch of talented custom makers and designers, throw in a few million $ of cash as R&D money and tell them to come up with something fun and interesting.

Then if I like the design I could have it put into production since I happen to own a factory for making them. The result would be something waaay too expensive to make good sales numbers but since I'm a billionaire what do I care? I'll just wait until it has something of a cult-like status and then pull the plug and watch as people go nuts trying to score the last ones. :D

I'd get a MT/Marfioni Dragonslayer3 or Masterpiece for my OTF. I already use (very lightly) and carry a Burn custom swing guard. Same with my Reese Weiland framelock converted Super CQC7. That knife always seems to be in my pocket. A Brend model 2 for my fixed blade.

If I was a billionaire I'd ask Benchmade to make a run of uncoated M390 805 TSEKs with a good quality Rift-style G10 . .. and I'd give them a bonus if they promised to not write all over the blade.

Damascus smatchet with ruby handlescales with diamond inlays and golden liners and maybe guard made of mammoth tooth... :D

C'mon people... there's only one right answer to this question...

Opinel #10. :D

Nah, but seriously... I don't know what I'd end up wasting my money on were I that rich, but I'm pretty sure I'd continue carrying the Manix I that I already have.

I'd buy a few hinderers, quite a large strider collection, with lots of their customs and starlingear collabs, but more than anything I'd build a huge collection of damascus sebs. Large, small, regular, classic/21, graphics, inlays all of em. Obviously I'd also have other crk's and a large assortment of customs, but the damascus sebs would be the centerpeice of the collection, with my large strider collection making of most of the rest. I think most of the carry time would be split between the sebs and a hinderer, even though I'd only own a few hinderers. I wouldn't feel the need to own many, but I think they'd get alot of carry.

I am living the dream already.

I think I must be the only one that enjoys the limitations my finances put on my collecting. I like searching and saving.

I won the lottery last year (not the jackpot, but enough to feel fine about making a few hasty purchases). So I ran out and spent a small pile on knives that I thought I would love if I ever had the money to get them. Funny thing is, I still have not warmed up to those purchases much at all.

By contrast, the ones I researched and saved for are my favorites.

The thrill is in the hunt for me I guess?
