I just looked at a list off of MSNBC, it looks like there aren't any real big blockbusters this summer, other than Batman and War of the Worlds. I saw Star Wars and really enjoyed it, it'll probably pull a Return of the King and be shown in theaters till the end of the year. From the list I saw, all of the summer movies I'm interested in are released in July. Two look like they'll stay in theaters for a while, one looks like it might be on DVD by August ;) .

June 17th Batman Begins

June 24th Land of the Dead

June 29th War of the Worlds

I'll scope out IMDB for some more goodies...

I wonder how the new Batman is going to turn out. I really hated the other newer Batman movies - the cartoonish clown/villians, musical numbers, and extra-cheesy soundstage production. I'd like to see a real Batman movie done in the style of the original comics - dark and serious.

Just saw a commercial for War of the Worlds last night. Looked OK.

Land of the Dead is definitely on my "to see" list, as is Star Wars.

Batman Begins looks like it will be about the Dark Knight, not some nutjob in tights like Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

Batman Begins looks to be really good. I had early reservations about Christian Bale playing Batman, but the trailers look good and the overall cast is pretty impressive.

Looking forward to Land of the Dead and War of the Worlds.

You could always go see those indie films. Just because, in the immortal words of South Park, they are mostly "gay cowboys reciting poetry" doesn't mean that you won't like 'em.

(sorry for being a smartass.) :D

I never thought of Slim Pickens as being "pretty" but to each his own :p

(wish I could post a picture. :) )

What, you don't like him riding that bomb?

Anybody got a pic of him riding the bomb, waving his hat?

Batman Begins has been looking pretty good to me. It seems as if it will be more on the dark and serious side, especially as compared to the most recent offerings.

Batman Begins looks good. I thought Christian Bale was superb in Equilibrium. Actually looked cooler than Keanu Reeves in Matrix. The trailer hints at it being darker than the previous versions and of course there's also liam neeson who is always good in any movie.

Land of the dead will hopefully be awesome. I don't wanna get my hopes up since Romero hasn't really come out with anything good lately.

War of the worlds WILL BE GOOD. Steven Spielberg is the greatest director alive (I said alive 'cos Akira Kurosawa is the greatest director ever). Usually i try to not watch movies with those pretty boy heartthrob actors like Keanu Reeves, Brad Pitt etc. but Tom Cruise is actually a good actor.

Oh...isn't Cinderella Man coming out soon? With Russell Crowe in it, it should be quite good. So there's gonna be 2 movies out where the director is working with an actor they've worked with before and where the previous movie didn't suck. Spielberg-Cruise and Howard-Crowe.

Ditto here with the overall sentiment. Keanu Reeves totally sucks and he's often in the worst movies. Brad Pitt has made some good films, "Seven" and "Fight Club" for instance.

I used to have a poor opinion of Tom Cruise. There was Tom Cruise in an airplane, Tom Cruise in a racecar, Tom Cruise pouring drinks... it was the same freakin' movie six times! Then he started doing serious films, ("Magnolia", "Eyes Wide Shut") and began to be seen as a serious actor. I was completely blown away by his performance in "Vanilla Sky". Although the movie wasn't serious, he was good in "Mission Impossible II".

Speilberg does too much gargantuan-budget-hollywood-blockbuster stuff for my taste, but he does it better than most and does have real talent. IMO, the best American director alive today is Robert Altman. Kurosawa is certainly on my top-ten list of all-time best directors, along with Altman, Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, Sergio Leone, John Woo, Jim Jarmuche, and a few others. "Ikiru" and "Rashamon" are two of the best films ever made.

Are you referring to "Minority Report"? I thought it was only so-so. The action scenes were cartoonish and unbelievable, some of the special effects were blurry and poorly done, and the ending didn't fit the atmosphere of the rest of the film. If Speilberg would have stuck to doing a futuristic film-noir detective story, it would have flowed much better. IMO, of course.

I do like Speilberg's movies OK, but appreciate them only for what they are, entertainment. Yes, he's done some incredible serious and realistic films too, but they are by far outnumbered by the mass-profit-seeking spectacles that he's famous for.

Saw the trailer for Fantastic 4 and it looks promissing. The next one I see will probably be the new Pixar Cars movie, though. The sacrifices we make for our children :)

Really looking forward to War of the Worlds. The original with Gene Barry is still neat to watch, the FX were way ahead of their time. It scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. Hopefully the new one will be as scary and awesome and fun as the original.

If you like horror (as I do), there's a movie coming out called Dark Water. It's another movie that was a Japanese horror, remade american in the vein of The Ring and The Grudge. Hopefully, it'll be more like The Ring and less like The Grudge.

I have the original Dark Water on DVD, but it's a Japanese format DVD and doesn't work in my DVD player, so I'm going to watch it on my laptop under the covers sometime this weekend. ;)

It seems the best horror is coming from Asia these days and I try to follow what they're up to a little bit since I'm "into" horror like I'm "into" knives and guns.

There's gotta be a site listing all the summer movies (even the obscure ones) - lemme do some searches.

I hope this thread lasts. I like the movies. :D

As a former comic book junky (teen years) I've enjoyed the Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man and Daredevil live action/computer inhanced movies. The Fantasic Four were one of my favorite teams (behind the Avengers) so I'm looking forward to that movie as well. I hope it lives up to the hype. ;)
