Previews, marketing and lots of drama

Vayu,

Talk about digging your own hole. Andy started this thread to publicly explain his side to a situation for all of us to learn from. He did not dime you out at all. For you to fess up and say the situation was about you...now YOU made it a public spectacle NOT Andy. Andy has publicly stood his ground and has even stated he LIKES you. Andy is a stand up guy. Now you've messed with Bud too? I think Bud is a stand up guy too and has made me very happy with his leatherwork. I sincerely hope your DRAMA has not negatively affected Bud or Andy too much because that just hurts me and everyone else as consumers and enthusiasts. I really enjoy working with Andy and Bud and for YOU to muddy the waters is very disappointing. Man up, apologize and then shut up.

IMO they are Fiddleback forges knives until they accept someone's money and they can sell them to whomever and however they want. I drop in on the sneak peaks here and there(try not to get my hopes up to much), and even in that limited viewing it was obvious that not every knife in the photo's was going to be in the Friday for sale thread. It is a large presumption that even if it did go on sale on Friday a particular person(including me) would get it. Life as a knife buyer is full of disappointments-ones that got away. Just got to move on. There is always another.
This are just some thought s of mine on this subject. Mr. Roy & co have to make their own decisions on how to run things. For them this is a business not just fun with knives, though I hope they are enjoying it also.

Thank you Peter, I agree in full.

Just a few thoughts, a couple of them for the record -

First, I want to clearly state that there is no inner circle of customers that get to cherry pick knives before they go to market. Yes, knives are sold in other ways besides the Friday thread, shows, and dealers. But it is a very small percentage of them, and I am proud to say that a healthy cross section of folks - maybe even you! - have benefited from this.

Please keep in mind that the knives shown in the sneak peek threads are not necessarily finished that particular week. We generally have two knife caddies (in addition to what you see on the sneak peeks) filled with knives in process. As the week progresses we pull to/from this as need be. So it is quite possible that a knife getting showcased may not be finished for another week or two, and then might get pulled for Blade show - thus never seeing the light of day until June.

Bud receives no special treatment from us. He pays full price for any knife he buys, minus his LE + gold member discounts.

We do want to hear our customers concerns and perspectives. I am sorry that this particular episode went in the direction it did. I believe at its root was a desire to make things better. I always try and remind myself that the written word has no tone, and is therefor subject to a wide range of interpretations.

Vayu, I want to thank you for all the postings you did on the Friday threads. I thought it was awesome, and quite original, how you reposted photos and added your own descriptions for the knives remaining. For me it was further confirmation of the quality of our little community here.

Emoney - thank you for sharing your story, and for the work you do. I had to watch a good friend slowly succumb to ALS and it sucked, such an awful disease.
