Any chance dealers will go back to discounting Benchmades MAP pricing this year? I should have paid a little closer attention and I would have bought a few from my list last year before the mandatory increase.

I doubt it unless this is just a way to "pad" earning forecasts until whenever their next fiscal year starts. After all as near as I can tell it's main purpose was to move the "online" prices in line with many large commercial brick-and-mortar retailers, thereby offering some price protection to places whom I would guess are their larger buying contracts.

Not if they want to continue to be authorized dealers :( :thumbdn:

I, on the other hand remain a customer, just not buying much anymore, and don't need many more as is.

I honestly don't see a good reason to swear them off over this. At the end of the day regardless of personal opinions, companies are accountable only to their shareholders or their equivalent and I for one can accept that while often the end consumer feels they get the short end of the stick, decisions made by a company are ultimately made in the interest of the success of that company. I'll still buy a knife if I decide it is one I wish to own and I can afford it.

I just wish they would have waited until after the CF 940 to increase the prices, now I'll never get to own one :/

I think their timing made good business sense, at the holiday season, before new model announcements, tho I do think some warning would have done a lot to stem the PR/consumer issues tho. As for the 940-1 at least the indicators are it will be a production model so you have some time to plan to buy one and I think most of the rumor mill is Q2 release, so likely some time between March-July. Just might be in short supply initially.

Waiting and patience can make a difference. Many that I own came from the secondary market (and friends), and at much lower prices than had I bought them even without the discounts no longer offered. The 940-1 is, so far, the only one of interest this year...and when the timing's right...you know the answer.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation for many now defunct and bankrupted companies. All probably made decisions shooting for success. (I'm not implying that's what will happen to Benchmade)

The point I am trying to make, is that if pricing this year stayed in line with last years model from online vendors, there would have been on average about 5-10 more Benchmades in my home than there will be in 2014.

Agreed, however I don't know where you would have purchased from. Many of us purchased online due to the discounts,(which were usually better than those from B and M stores), this would have impacted the bottom line of for those retailers, and if left unchecked they may opt to reduce orders or simply stop carrying BM at all and the buying power of these types of retailers is immense.

The real shit and giggles part of this whole thing is people getting their panties in a twist over Benchmade doing what other knife companies have been doing for YEARS. Sure, it was nice when Benchmade didn't really enforce their pricing policy but I'm not going to get pissy now that they are. Others do the same thing and nobody threatens to not buy their knives because they always enforced it? Even with the enforced pricing, I think Benchmades are one of the best values in the knife world.

I hope they sell a lot less knives. That way, instead of opening my fresh from the dealer Benchmade, with off centered blades, grinds ect... it will be flawless. Make less knives Benchmade and make em' right. Spend more time for QA and QC. That I will pay for.

Agreed, It's not like these policies are a new idea.

It was an artificial 30%-40% price increase. Knife enthusiasts knew Benchmades at the discounted prices for years and suddenly, a 15 year old designed 154CM BM710 for example that sold for $107 magically turned to $145 overnight. Let's not bring other companies into this and no one is complaining about them HERE because this is the Benchmade forum and has nothing to do with them. The companies that have enforced MAP pricing has been that way and that's how their knives have been priced, did we see a 40% price increase that hit our pockets from them recently? Now... Back to Benchmade. It is their decision and we're just going to have to live with it. Who knows, maybe things change someday... Perhaps the sentiments and suggestions shared by folks on the boards and even on their social media pages will urge them to at least allow for sales.

I saw no twisted panties, I did see discussion. Now, if we are going to do a summary of events, at least include the pertinent facts. The difference you are unaware of either accidentally or on purpose, is that no other company has done this, from out of the clear blue sky, with not so much as even a heads up from their "official" channels. Especially right before the holidays. There is a difference between "YEARS" as you put it and within a matter of days. It might not have made a bit of difference to you, and that is fantastic. But to others that thought about it, it just didn't sit right paying 20-30% more for the same old thing. I'm glad that one person was not put off by it, you're a bigger Benchmade fan than the rest of us then.

Oh well, they didn't need me as a customer anyway.

Benchmade, or the dealers? This was not the dealers' decision.

I will still buy from the same dealer, but will likely be a different brand. My Benchmades will come from the secondary market unless I decide I can't wait for some limited edition.
