Price drop?

Just to clarify, with ZT now MAP (20% off MSRP instead of Benchmade's 15%) is being enforced only in the form that you cannot publicly advertise below MAP as a bonafide ZT dealer. Most abide when a new knife has just been introduced and/or the stocks are low. However, you can find many legitimate ZT dealers selling for 35% off MSRP once an item is readily available. They all do it in different ways and different extents.

In the current calculus, you can get a ZT 0801 with titanium FrameLock, Elmax, flipper and titanium handles for $25 less than the Benchmade 940 with Axis Lock, S30V, thumbstuds and aluminum handles!
Mind sending me the info on where to get a 0801 for $155? That's something I wanna see (I'm considering a 0801). The only price I've seen on the 0801 is $191.

Sent you a PM with two ZT & BF dealers with such pricing. They just don't advertise it. Please check and respond that it is indeed so.

Thanks for the links! Those prices may just change my decision a bit...

I will remain a BM fan. Why? Because I've gotten every BM I've ever had from the Exchange. Much cheaper that way.

Either that, or by trading. :D

the "exchange" is where you buy and sell knives on forums, this or elsewhere

I gotcha, thanks. I had a senior moment I guess. That's how I was able to afford the 940 that I'm expecting any day now.

Thanks. Yes, been a member a very long time, but only started posting/reading recently. I think I've been bitten by the knife bug.

Before this pricing policy, I used to consider BM a very high value brand, especially on certain items like the mini-grip. If I or my friends wanted a good knife, I would recommend Benchmade knives at the top of the list. Now some of that value aspect is lost, so they will probably drop down a few spots. I like BM products, but these new prices will just mean I will be buying them a lot less often.
If we were to get even a few small QC improvements for this, like more attention spent on the grind, or a slightly smoother axis lock, I wouldn't mind this price hike so much. But as it is now, I can only see negatives.

I am glad I snagged up as many as I did last year. I just went browsing around the net, and the current prices are crazy. We were spoiled with the discounted prices.

It may be awhile before I buy another one. I did just spend $600 on a Busse though. I was going to pick up a new 909BK when they come out. I still might but even at MAP it is still around $160 not too bad. I guess.

The company that still had the mentioned above is Newegg. Pricing has changed within the last two-days. I emptied out the 940's reverse tanto and plain. The pricing memo must have hit them later since they changed the price or made most of the "higher end" BM's unavailable. I got very lucky.

I don't see Benchmade changing their pricing scheme back to what it was. They (BM Management) seem convinced that this is the way to go. So much for price drops. :(

What I do see happening is:

1. Older Benchmade customers (us) will purchase less knives or cease purchasing knives from Benchmade, leaving sales open to new customers who were not used to buying knives discounted below MAP.

2. Certain models, mainly the "economy lines" such as griptilian and mini griptilian will take significant hits in sales. As great as these knives were at $85 and $70 pricepoints respectively, they are now priced well beyond several other excellent designs. With the cheaper knife sales slowing, Benchmade will have to rely more on the sales of the 940, 810, 710, 275, 916/917, and 950.

Exchange values will increase there, too, eventually, though. The prices there are tied to market value, as is trade values in the trading forum.

Newegg doesn't actually stock Benchmade knives. They are basically a clearinghouse for other companies who advertise through them. The low prices went away because those dealers finally updated their prices it quit selling Benchmades.
