I am going to pick a mystery gift for this give away. I do not know what it is at this time. All I will say is it won't be a dud gift.

The rules are pretty simple:

You must post in the Traditional Knife Forum and pretty regular. Minimum traditional posts of 200.

I must recognize you user name or if I am not certain about your name, I will check your user stats for compliance.

If you live outside the USA, I will mail US First Class or the cheapest way possible - these international mail fees are costly!

You must follow the rules. One knife and one landscape picture qualifies you. No pics - no mystery gift! :o

I will let this run for a while and/or until I see a loss of interest.

You must post a picture(s) of your favorite knife and at least one or more landscape type picture(s) of the area in which you live. The landscape can be a place in your home county that is dear to you or that makes you have pride in your home area. I have some experience with copyright violations (I used to sell photos) and I would say you are fine using an internet picture that you might find by a search engine, as long as a copyright is not clearly printed on the picture. After all, nobody is using a picture to sell here.

The goal is for you to find a pretty picture of your vicinity and give me an idea of your prideful place in your area.

You can post as many times as you like. If the landscape is not your picture, so state. I will give an example with my first post.

You can choose to edit/replace your picture(s) within 24 hours - if longer - try a new post.

I might select the winner from the pictures I like the best or if you include a story that I like, that might have a bearing - or

I might change my mind and throw everyone's name in a stew pot and mix them up! :D

Since the picture of the landscape does not have to be your own, you do not have to worry about your photographic prowess. ;):)

Good luck to all and I will begin with the following sample:

My favorite knife:

(Search engine picture)

Pleasant Hill aerial

(Search engine picture)

Pleasant Hill - Fresh Snow

(My own picture)

P.S. - the more effort I see from participants might mean the mystery gift grows - or gets better! Once again - good luck!

I will reveal the prize at the end of the give away.

I am a Michigan fan and this is where my season tickets put me in "The Big House". I have to help the cheerleaders up on to the wall after a score....somebody's got to do it. ;)

I like fishing and there are many lakes and streams in Jackson. Here is a picture of a Brown Trout I let my friends dog kiss before releasing....it was too small. ;)

Nice giveaway idea. I've seen your pictures, I don't think you have a dud to give away!

Favorite knife, the Case 6375:

I live in Baton Rouge, but grew up in Mississippi..... on of my favorite places is my hunting camp.

The pictures for this should be good, great idea. My favorite for use and because it was my first GEC and present to myself after getting my first real job after college is the 81 stockman that you have all seen before

Unfortunately my suburban hometown is pretty boring as
far as landscape, too many homes. If I may, here are some pictures of my home away from home, the area around my parents' camp that we have had for 21 years and I grew up at in the summers.

It has been a long time since I played golf, but, that looks like a tough hole to play there! and beautiful! I can envision my golf ball bounding past the green and over the hill! :D

Your second picture is very beautiful and impressive! ;)

Hi Primble, that Pleasant hill house is amazing, my cuppa tea. thanks for the image.
Favourite is a hard thing to think about, the others could get dull and upset :D This is right up there.
The pictures are of a few spots on my land here in the wilds of Haliburton Ontario. The old farm road goes right through my property and links up with other old trails.

Thanks for the fun my friend.

Very best regards

Robin

Thank you Robin - that is a super knife you picked. I like the old farm road - reminds me of my uncle Joe's farm road!

That old house was built by the Pleasant Hill Shakers and the thick limestone walls were cut out of the nearby Kentucky River Cliffs and hauled by horse and wagons to the village. Their workmanship was outstanding! Built in the 1800's.

It's a wonderful house, I would have thought it was 18th century in the Georgian period. We have a few Quaker settlements up here and lots of Mennonite and Amish folk but not many great homes remain.

Best regards

Robin

What a cool giveaway and fantastic pics so far! My wife and I moved to Highlandville Missouri from Dallas Texas about a month and a half ago to get away from the big city life and problems. We have really fallen in love with the area here, there's lakes, rivers and streams just about everywhere you turn and we really couldn't have found a better place. We have wanted a change for a really long time and had looked all over to find the perfect place we could live a simple, meaningful life, filled with opportunities to fulfil our passion for the outdoors. We really took a chance moving here as neither of us had ever set foot on Missouri soil, but after hearing what our friends who had just moved here had to say, and from our research on the area, we couldn't pass it up and it has truly been a wonderful experience. We have been staying with our gracious friends since we've been here and have almost got the whole job thing nailed down and hope to buy this little hunters lodge out in the hills soon. Here is my favorite knife and the view from the front porch that I hope to be smoking my pipe on soon.

So this is my favorite knife, probably no surprises to anyone

And here are some shots of the Natchez trace just outside of where we live here in Jackson, MS

An Observation tower that overlooks the mississippi river in Port Gibson Mississippi

Local wildlife

After seeing all the pics people are posting, thought i would try and up my game...
rather than start another post, i decided to add to my original...

Here is some google pics of my home (current: jackson MS)

And here is some pics from my former home (Nunda, NY where i grew up)

Hey Rob - that is a real hard thing to do - just picking up and taking a big risk - I hope it turns out well for you and I can see why you would like the view from that front porch!!:)

So this is my favorite knife, probably no surprises to anyone

Nice patina going on that Case!!:)

Thanks for the GA. Very generous of you.

This is my favorite knife. Not my most treasured, but my favorite. The combination of its lines, stag covers, and craftsmanship make it near perfect IMO.

I live in California. My immediate area is nothing special, typical suburban sprawl. But I love the variety this state offers. Giant redwoods to the North, beaches and Disneyland to the South, and three hours to the East is one of my favorite places in the world, Lake Tahoe. It can get a bit crowded and touristy, but it's absolutely gorgeous.

Here's something a bit more local, Mt. Diablo. I don't know how it's considered a mountain since its elevation tops out at less than 4,000 feet. (Apparently there's no consensus on what constitutes a mountain.). But it dominates the landscape as it is the only mountain for a hundred miles in every direction. In the spring I love looking up and seeing it covered with green. It's a good place to go when I want to get away for a few hours.

- Christian

P.S. The knife pic is mine. Place images came courtesy of Google.

I do post here once in a while, but I haven't ever been able to decide on a "favorite knife".

But, here's a couple of pretty pictures taken in San Diego to make up for it.

This is the San Diego "South Bay" at sunset on a very still evening.

And this is taken about a 1/4 mile away from my house.

Favorite knife: large J. Oeser gunstock.

The meadow by the corral where the cow round up happens.

Another place I enjoy. Canoeing overnight trips with the scouts.

I'm going to take this a slightly different way for mine:

I have lived in Michigan most of my life. I recently took a new job (I'm a Product Design Engineer) with a large company that is very international. A lot of our design work comes out of Northern Italy, so it's off to Italy for 3 months with the wife (this is not a vacation! I work about 55-60 hours a week and have little energy left on weekdays). I will call Italy my temporary home and submit on that basis. We have had more struggles than smiles since being here, but all the same it now feels like home. The weekends are when we get to enjoy this beautiful country...

We live just North of Venice in a small town with a few fruit stands and bread shops: that puts us about an hour South of the beautiful Mountain Highway and the treasures it brings us: the Rifugios. The Rifugios are Mountain Huts that are located at the end of long walking paths up the mountains. We learned about these when researching the area before we left and were expecting something "fancy" due to the clientele... What we got was something so perfectly rustic and original that we fell in love with it. These huts are run by a single family who eats dinner with you and sleeps in the room next to you. Everyone is nice and appreciative of your business. Everyone works hard and smiles. Prices are about half of what you will find in Venice but you get 1000 times more. For rooms you have the choice of rustic single bed (small and extremely cozy) or a hostile-style multi-bed room. The food is spectacular: old-world dishes prepared from the ingredients of the immediate area eaten in a WWI rock-walled barracks next to a warm stove. The meals we eat up there make me want to give up every electronic device I own and start farming. The cheese is made at the bottom of the mountain. The mountain's yak herd walked by us as we enjoyed coffee by the cliff, the bread is baked each day and you eat it until it's gone. The irony is that when you read about the Rifugios, you get the impression that the trail there is easy and the area is going to be built for yuppies. It's anything but that. This area is frozen in time and the only people who come here are hearty like the food and looking for a simple escape from the modern world. We were limited on what we could pack, so I brought what I could: my Makr Farmbag, Tilley TH5 Hemp Hat, Victorinox Electrician Plus, Smartwool shirt, Liberty drinking bottle, and Grana Padano hard cheese with Red Wine aged Sausage. The items that accompanied me were made in the USA, Italy, Switzerland, and Canada...

The Way Up:

That's my VW and we have to get to the Rifugio (radio tower at the top of the cliff)

Rifugio Monte Rite, our favorite so far. It was build by the Italians before WWI as a mountain fort. You can still see the gun pits and you eat in the barracks.

Primble, Brilliant idea for a giveaway!

Stunning places ladies and gents, and great knives too!

I'd be astonished if the Traditional crowd didn't know which my favourite was yet, here is my favourite picture of it. At sunset looking through the village of Griomsiadar (in english Grimshader pronounced grim-shadder) to the west from the edge of the croft where I live.

I live on the Isle of Lewis which has a vast array of scenery and landscapes dominated by coastline, with bleak open moorland to the north and vicious mountain peaks to the south. The following images are not taken by me but are gleaned from the wonderous world of google. I spend my working life flying about the islands but due to the nature of my job I don't exactly get the chance to stop and take pictures. I have however seen many of these places at all sorts of different times of year and at the kind of hour that most people never see. It never ceases to amaze me. I love our wee island. This first image is the most northerly point of Lewis known as 'The Butt of Lewis' up at the Port of Ness. It is officially the windiest place in the UK.

Tolsta at the north eastern corner of the island boasts some wonderful beaches, this is Gary Beach.

The famous Callanish Stones on the west side of Lewis, these may look familiar from the animated movie Brave.

Cradhlastadh in Uig to the southwest.

and the mighty Clisham in North Harris. This mountain (although not that big) dominates any view to the south from Lewis.

A favorite knife can be your favorite for a week, a month, always, or simply more than a day. Add your knife and get in on the mystery Frank! ;):)
I know you have some nice knives and I promise not to gouge you any, even if it turns out to be your favorite Buck, but, then again, you have those pretty Queens! ;):)
( Hint: The knife you pick does not win you anything - I just want to see everyone's favorite knife )

The following images are not taken by me but are gleaned from the wonderous world of google.
Paul - you took advantage of the power of Google search images for your area and came up with some WOW pictures of your area. I particularly liked how you added descriptive content to each picture.

Remember everyone - this is not a contest for the best photographer - you can use search engine images - to level the playing field! ;);)

Just trying to remind everyone of the rules and I woke up to WOW this morning.:eek::D

I enjoyed each and every picture and all of the narratives. Thank you everyone so far!!!

Based on what I have seen so far - my generosity is blooming - If it stays this good or gets better - there might be a runner up prize too! ;):D

Not only is this a generous giveaway- thanks, Primble!, But it's nice to get to know everyone a little better.

"Favorite" is always a difficult thing, but I often come back to this one. A good old Barlow. I fixed it up to make it usable, modified the blade shapes a bit, and so it is uniquely mine.

I live in Austin, Texas. It's a very cool city, filled with techies and hipsters and many, many musicians. Also, just normal folks;)

Y'all post such stunning views of such beautiful places! These can't compare, but here's a few from Enchanted Rock, out of town, but in Central Texas
