Primble's Mystery GAW - Prizes Mailed

What a great idea for a GAW Primble!! There have been awesome stories and pictures so far! This isn't an entry, as I'm still pretty new around here, but I wanted to play anyway :)

I'm relatively new to traditionals. While I have a few that I love (such as my 3 Charlows), the one that stands out to me as my favorite is my Northwoods Indian River Jack. It looks great, and it's a no nonsense working knife, and easy to maintain.

I live in Calgary, Alberta, in the wonderful country of Canada. I don't have any pictures of the city, so I found this skyline shot on Google.

When I'm not working, I love cooking on my grill and exploring the outdoors. Obligatory cooking picture :)

One of the great things about Calgary, is that we're a relatively short drive from some of the most beautiful places in the country. We have a cabin a few hours away, and you never know what may walk past...

We also love to get out hiking, and here's a couple shots from this summer so far:

This is a picture of a place near to my home and my heart. Hidden away in the middle of this big, constantly growing state capitol, state university, high-tech, horrible traffic, live music, never-ending succession of festivals and street parties, Formula One, football frenzy yaddayaddayadda city, is a little old intermittent watercourse called Shoal Creek. This little pool is a five minute walk from my house, down an embankment that starts up at busy overheated street level and arrives at cool shady seclusion for a few frogs, little fish, and me.
aes6qr.jpg

In my pocket will be this knife. Strange to call it my favorite, because I just bought it this year. That was strange too - opened an almost-spam email from a big web dealer, saw this knife and went straight to the website and bought it - under a minute from "Wow, that's totally new" to "Thank you for your order". From a guy who has been known to spend months researching and soul-searching over the most trivial purchase. Got it, put up a post on the forum, got some feedback about the (ugh!) stainless blades, (ewww!) soft springs, and (total dealbreaker!!) too-fat stag. And I agree with all of them; those are my own prejudices, every one. And I love the knife; it's the perfect size, fits my hand like a glove, is the world's greatest worry-stone to fondle while gazing at the stag or hiding it in the pocket, takes and keeps as good an edge as I know how to put on a blade, and cleanly and effortlessly separates matter into two parts along a straight line - I believe they call that "cutting", which after all is the point of the whole exercise, sort of.
Wish you were here. Since you aren't, I'm sending a couple of my own pictures - hope you enjoy 'em.

Berk

What we are famous for.

and we get our share of them too! I had one come through my back yard in 2008. Now all the big backyard shade trees are gone. Nice pick of the twistie!

The only time I went through Kansas, I remember it as flat as a pancake. I guess south Kansas is more rolling, like my area.

& don't forget the famous for "Jayhawks"- usually have great teams, as well as UNC "Tarheels" for Jennifer & Riley - tip of the hat from one basketball fan to other great basketball school fans! ;)

This is not an entry, as I have already been blessed, but I wanted to play

Welcome to Austin, Texas. Today we are going to go on a favorite walk with the starting point being Deep Eddy Pool. Then on to Deep Eddy Organic Gardens and finally end with Zilker Gardens. I can't pick a favorite knife, you all know me to well, but this old Norvell plays in my heart like Glen Gould on Sunday morning.

what a great idea... Not sure I have that many posts in traditional, but I am new to the traditional scene as of the last two years. But, I love them! I post daily lately of what I am carrying. Up to you.

I live in TX just South of Dallas. Here is a journey through some of the scenes that depict this part of the state, yes most of the stuff is true. We love to hunt, the Cowboys, riding horses, knives, guns and yes things are bigger here! :-)
Most are action shots.

Lexington is about 40 miles away - but - where a lot of the bigger city good stuff happens. ;)

I don't think it is your optical mouse Gevo - it has been happening to me lately too! Great pictures - by the way!

I would run from that longhorn too!

Not an entry.
I do post here once in a while, but I haven't ever been able to decide on a "favorite knife".

But, here's a couple of pretty pictures taken in San Diego to make up for it.

This is the San Diego "South Bay" at sunset on a very still evening.

And this is taken about a 1/4 mile away from my house.

A favorite knife can be your favorite for a week, a month, always, or simply more than a day. Add your knife and get in on the mystery Frank! ;):)
I know you have some nice knives and I promise not to gouge you any, even if it turns out to be your favorite Buck, but, then again, you have those pretty Queens! ;):)
( Hint: The knife you pick does not win you anything - I just want to see everyone's favorite knife )

Still not an entry, but this is one of my favorites.

This Queen half-Congress in Birds-Eye Maple and D2 has my two favorite blade shapes (the ones I find most useful) in one of my favorite alloys. And the fit and finish of this ~2006 Queen is spot on.

Very cool giveaway. I don't really have a favorite knife, I like anything I keep.

Here is my favorite SAK and a pond nearby that I used it at kayak fishing with my Grandpa:

Still can't get things right with flickr. Some great entries so far, and a very nice "not an entry" from Frank. I will probably sit this one out because I am so inept at using technology. But I am certainly enjoying this thread.

Thanks ...good to know as its the first time its happened to me.

I live in Portland, Oregon. It's an awesome city that is surrounded by some outstanding wilderness! All but the first picture are my own. Enjoy!

This is a view of downtown during our snow storm this winter. I love Portland in the snow. Nobody knows what to do, so the city shuts down and everyone goes sledding ;)

This is my evening commute. Heading up I-5 North through the middle of the city. In the background you can see the steel bridge, one of the many that give the city the nickname "bridge city"

The next four pics were taken at a bird sanctuary on the edge of town. One of the reasons I love Portland is having all of opportunities that an urban city provides, but also being able to get out into nature in a very short amount of time.

And finally, my favorite knife. I got this old beat up Camillus equal end jack from my grandfather when I was 7. He was a very important influence on my life and I treasured this gift that he gave me right out of his pocket on a camping trip. This is also the knife that led me to Bladeforums...I don't carry it anymore, it sits on display with other inherited knives and odd bits, but it is the knife that I love the most.

If I were to pick a favorite, the one that I carry the most is this:

I live in the San Joaquin Valley, where agriculture is king. Here is a recently plowed field:

I can see the peaks of Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP from my house, and that is my true love. Here are a few shots I have taken in the high country there:

First, a lake that I visited last year that may not have seen human footprints in the last generation, very remote and off the beaten track:

Columbine Lake, where I spent the last night of my long backpacking trip this year:

Kaweah Basin:

Pools on Picket Creek:

Lowest lake on Picket Creek:

In Deadman Canyon:

Big Wet Meadow in Cloud Canyon:

Franklin Lake (where I slept last night):

And finally, a sample of the namesake for the park (this is the Franklin tree, which gets very little attention):

The second part is a bit more difficult to capture in just a few pics
But after some thought I decided that for a lot of the year I live in my Tractor so something along those lines would probably be appropriate .
So here's a couple of shots taken from my Tractor seat the other morning with just my phone .
