Priority Mail problem

Beware of the fake Click-N-Ship notifications. Just because it says the post office was notified of shipment.....Doesn't mean the package is dropped or picked up by the USPS. All it means is the seller electronically made a shipping label. It is a low down trick used by some to buy time and satisfy customers. Than they can blame the USPS for the delay.

Thanks for the tip whip. There are a lot of ways to go wrong shopping over the net.

So, with that in mind, I bot 2 Leatherman Charge Ti in person, $62 each!, at the Expo today from the nicest knife lady ever. Wow, what a deal.

Happy as a clam. One for me and one for #2 son. Just finished polishing the blade, 154CM, on his with the Edgepro and the fine stone, 1,000 and 3,000 grit polishing tape.

Best,

"Priority Mail" is an euphamism (sp!) - It is POSTAGE only and is a marketing ploy dreamed up years ago to try to compete with FedEx/UPS/DHL - it is simply what used to be known as "First Class"... for more dinero!... there is no tracking number issued with just PRIORITY level postage...

To get any kind of "tracking number" on a package requires you to add an extra level of service, such as Certified, Insured, Confirmation of Delivery (a phreaking joke if ya ask me!), Signature Required, Registered or Express Mail.
If the shipper told you there was a tracking number associated with your shipment, it means you paid for miore than just Priority Mail... Now, what extra level did the shipper provide?

Otherwise, you should only be expecting a simple package that is absolutely untraceable (ever tried to track a stamp???)... and could be delayed by weather, by miss-routing, by about a million other little things (I run the Office Services for a law firm - you wouldn't believe the mistakes we recieve EVERY day!)

In fact, we sent a Priority labeled envelope from Seattle to Bellevue... a matter of a few miles and a bridge across the lake... It took 3 weeks!!!! Via Connecticut!!! When the PO scans the address and paints a barcode on your shipment... that barcode could actually be the code that the machine scanned for the previous item... Now your item has the address painted on by machine for somewhere else entirely!!! And until a human pulls it out and corrects the mistake, it stays in the wrong place...

But, considering the sheer volume the PO handles every day, well, I'm suprised that they don't screw up more than they do...

If you want to be able to track a shipment through the USPS system, only Registered or Express mail gives you the same tracking abilities as you find with UPS or Fed Ex. The other services are only entered into the system at time of mailing and time of delivery...and that isn't considered to be "tracking".

And no, I don't work for the PO, nor do I use them for my own personal shipping, as I like the way Fed Ex does things and the comfort level I've developed by using them over the past twenty years... But there is a lot of confusion out in the world about how the PO works.. or doesn't in some cases...

I disagree. My experience for the most part is that priority mail is much faster. At approximately 1:00 PM PST on 01/26/06 I mailed a package to the East Coast...the recipient had it in his hands by approximately 9:30 AM PST today. I don't think you can do much better than that without spending a lot more money. I have had some experiences that were a little slower, but they were the exception rather than the rule.

I agree with your sentiment regarding speed for cost, but, Sorry Makh... apparently I didn't make it clear in my previous post :o ... "Priority Mail", as a class, started years ago as a mark up of what was traditionally known as "First Class."... Today, I can send a .39 cent envelope from Seattle to a small town in southern Missouri in three days... For an extra $3.66 ($4.04 is the first rate in Priority Class) I can put it in a Priority Envelope and watch it get there in 3 days...

I'm not trying to say anything about the SPEED in which something gets delivered, but in what costs what and what do you get for it...and can you or can you not "track" something once it's been shipped via the USPS system...

My point is that Priority is nothing more, nor any faster, than what we have tradionally known as First Class... you just pay more when it's under 13 0z.... and anything over 13 oz. becomes known as Priority Class anyway... And you still can't "track" it...

Although with the new regulation requireing all postal meters to become digital, the imprint from the meter showing postage, meter number and location may soon have an embedded barcode in the imprint that will allow for tracking of EVERY piece of mail sent through a meter machine!

I agree that Priority is on par with first class except cost......But the ease and options of the Priority packaging is nice. I can get the boxes delivered free (yeah I know nothin is free), but if I have to buy bubble mailers or boxes the cost is not much cheaper in the end.
