Probably a stupid question...

Kevin,

My posts have all been right on point. The fact that you cite poor economic conditions as a reason for a knife maker to lower their prices. Points to your lack of understanding of the custom knife market.

Ok Kevin, here is a challenge for you:

I wasn't familiar with Kevin Casey until he joined the CKCA. He makes great knives. Particularly like his folders.

If you didn't know who Kevin was until he joined the CKCA...then how do you know he makes great knives?

What is it that makes his knives so great?

Well, Amnesiac, I hope you have a great time finding what you love. The politics of the knife world aside, I am sure you enjoy whatever you choose to purchase.

Can't we leave off topic discussions for elsewhere?

Hi Murray,

When you wrote

You basically said don't be bothered by buying a knife that is not worth the money.

Technically, I can tell you a winner from a loser when it comes to presentation and Damascus folders. However the two makers at the show you want to talk to are : Bob Neal and Paul Farina. Those two dealer will have more knowledge with regards to the custom folder market than any other individuals in the room.

"Makers" I am sure this is a mistake. I understand that Mr. Neal is your business partner, is this also true of Mr. Farina? I have been to Mr. Farina's site and his selection is fantastic.

Les, I understand the custom knife market well enough to be successful in my collecting. I say successful, in that I am very satisfied with my collection which has been financed substantially by profits from previously owned knives.
Though fortunately, I am not under the pressure of having to earn an income from the custom knife market.

In regard to your challenge, I will NOT debate the quality of a CKCA member's knives with you here on a public forum.
I will say I try to stay abreast of what's going on in the market, including being aware of makers and the knives they are producing.
Kevin Casey's knives slipped past my radar so I was pleased to be exposed to them and hear very good things from more experienced collectors than myself.

Amnesiac, sorry for my part in derailing this thread, however I believe you picked up some very good information that will help you.
