Problem HT CPM 154

I recently had high heat ss foil stick to my blades. Had to literally grind it off. I don't think the problem had to do with your foil.

I use a lot of CPM154 and never had the problem you describe, it sure sounds like you have something else there. as for the foil, I've always used the low temp. and didn't have problems with it sticking to the blade until I started doing CPM154. I dust my blades with baby talc and it stopped.
make sure you use TALC and not corn starch, the baby smell obviously burns off and all that's left is a fine brown powder, it's my opinion that you have to dust CPM154 when heat treating in foil.
Also I get my CPM154 from Admiral steel and myself have never had any problem with them.

If you ground 1/16" off and are still only testing in the upper 40's it's definitely not the foil. You were either sent the wrong steel or something is way off with the oven which you seem pretty confident that isn't the case. That should be easy to test. If everything comes out good on the next 440c blade you heat treat it'd be a pretty safe bet you were sent the wrong steel.

Good quality foil shouldn't stick to CPM154 though. I've heat treated a few hundred blades in 309 SS foil and it's never stuck to the blade.
I've also had success using Turco with CPM154. It supposedly is only good to 1650 but I've had no issues treating CPM154 at 1950 with Turco. I do finish the blade to at least 220 grit before heat treat. NEVER use Turco with s30v,s35vn,s90v (could be others) the blade will be destroyed.

I have never had foil stick to a cpm154 blade, regardless of low temp or high temp foil. Throwing a piece of paper in, a squirt of kerosene, or nothing at all. I've never had it happen.

I use a lot of CPM154 and I have never had any problems. As they have suggested you use talc, avoid putting paper or anything in the package - if you squeeze the foil wrap, you leave very little air and therefore oxygen and you do not need to do anything else.

My SS foil was rated 1900. I knew I was pushing the envelope. I'm not blaming the foil for the record. I don't think the foil was the problem. It did fine at 1935 with tiny pimple problems. When I went to 1950 it totally failed. It became part of the blade and what wasn't attached to the blade disintegrated . I'm not blaming the foil for my problems. I had just read people pushing the envelope and doing ok because I just recently bought a new roll of SS foil of low temp from my previous supplier.

On a new thought I recently placed a first for me order to POP's and couldn't be happier. Price was incredible, service was incredible. Shipping was incredible. Pop's wasn't my supplier for my failed attempts at CPM154 for the record. So I cut out six new knives in my old stand by 440C and I'm back on track. I'll let you know the results but I'm betting I'll be good to go! Thanks. POP's. Highly recommend them based on the service I received!

Ok I admit I'm a slow learner SBuzek. But I do learn! I guess my problem is wanting to order everything I need from one supplier. That's not always the answer. I'll be a repeat customer of Pop's that's for sure. Awesome folks.
