This thread has been posted on other forums also, I am trying to get the word to all who purchase knives on Ebay.
Part question, part warning to other Ebay users:
Has anyone else had problems with the username knifesales on Ebay?
I won an auction and paid by electonic check through billpoint the next day. I got confirmation of payment from Ebay a couple of days later. Two weeks plus after that I finally got the package. It was wrapped in newspaper dated 5-6 days after I got confirmation that the money was in knifesales account. So I know that it was sent at least 6 days after knifesales received payment. That in itself was not so much of a problem, I guess some companies do not ship every day but it would have been nice if knifesales would have let me know that fact (if true) at some point since it was going to be a gift. I had to end up buying the gift retail and keeping the knife for myself. Anyway, I gave knifesales a Neutral feedback due to the somewhat slow shipping. That was over a month ago. Last night I go on Ebay and see a Negative feedback on my account from knifesales saying "poorly handled transaction, Avoid."
What? I guess knifesales means poorly handled because I didn't give him a glowing review. How can it be poorly handled when I paid quickly and he never heard from me again? I went back on his feedback section and under where I put his neutral comment he wrote that I paid by personal check and that's why he took so long to mail it. A complete lie. I started reading his other feedback and there are several negative ones all saying basically the same thing: waited 2-3 weeks or more for the product. So basically he gave me a negative feedback just because I gave him a neutral one. Has anyone else gotten a negative feedback for giving him a neutral or negative one? If so please reply to this post to let everyone know what happened. He is trying to send a message to me that I should just play along or else. I think the people who buy from him should send him a message. There was a Kershaw that I was watching for three days that ended last night that knifesales was auctioning. With 17 minutes left to the auction I read his feedback and decided I will never buy from him again. I'll leave it up to you to make your own decisions but if you need something quicker than three weeks or plan on being honest with your feedback I would avoid knifesales.

I've learned to always check sellers feedback "before" bidding on an item.

I was recently going to bid on the Blackhawk Down DVD, and saw someone had a few for sale at a very good price. After reading his feedback I saw that he was selling from Hong Kong and it took about 6 to 8 weeks to receive your item. Not worth the $5 I would have saved.

Sometimes it doesn't matter, sometimes it does. like anything else, even at Ebay, you have to shop around!

Joe

Always read the feedback first. Joe's right, the (possible) hassle is just not worth the money that you'll be saving. Thanks for the warning, though, I'll make sure I don't buy from that person (I think I've seen that seller before).

I had problems with this seller before. after winning an auction, and sending 6-7 e-mails I never got a reply:(. I was able to find the knife locally, so I just trashed the whole deal. This fella made my NG list.

When shopping Ebay, I check the feedback profile. I also tend to avoid the really big seller's(the fellas that have a 100+ auctions a week), I've had a couple of bad experiences with those type's of seller's.

I have had a number of successful transactions with 'knifesales' on eBay. They even went so far as to automatically combine multiple auctions to save me shipping fees. They have an excellent feedback record, which is why I deal with them. In thousands of transactions there are bound to be a few unhappy customers.

If I understand it correctly your package arrived two weeks after the end of the auction? Neutral or negative feedback is supposed to be the last resort after you have exhausted all other possibilities such as contacting them to find out why your package was not shipped out for five or six days. Two weeks total seems quite reasonable to me. They don't charge much for shipping. If you are in a hurry 1SKS is the place to go.

In my opinion if you gave them a neutral for (a) the package arriving two weeks after the auction and (b) without first contacting them to see what they had to say then frankly the negative in return is justified.

What's wrong with neutral feedback?

If a seller doesn't respond to e-mails and takes a long time to ship, then the feedback will be justifiably neutral.

Neutral doesn't even mean anything went wrong, only that it could have been much better.

But this seller goes around leaving negative feedback and lying about anyone who dares leave neutral feedback?

Come on, he's dishonest, unpleasant, and not at all worth the hassle. That you would come in here and say we shouldn't leave neutral feedback for this jerk is an insult to every one of us who makes the effort to conduct business in a fair and honest manner.

You might want to report it to eBay. I seem to recall that it is against e-Bay policy to leave negative feedback on a transaction just because of the feedback that the other party left.

I have to agree that this knifesales doesn't look like anyone I'd like to do business with. He seems unethical, at the least. Petty and vindictive, maybe.

I'm making a note of his name, and checking to see if ebay will filter his stuff out so I don't forget and buy something from him. Thanks for the warnings.

I've bought three knives from him with excellent results. The last was a NIB Emerson Specwar for $106. Beat that. There are lots of eBay vendors who will trash you with feedback or who will require you to post feedback first before they provide theirs. That bothers me too, and I would not re-purchase from someone who did that to me. But, knivesales never did that to me. - Lee

Thank you all who have replied so far. It's sad to see knifesales has done this to so many people but I'm happy that I'm not just over-reacting and other people see a problem too. Please don't take offense Rev. Pete but are you in any way affiliated with knifesales? If you are not and just responding honestly, then again please do not take offense.
Here is what happened give or take a few hours. I won the auction in the afternoon/evening. I paid by billpoint the next day. Within 24 hours Ebay sent confirmation of the transaction. A couple of days later Ebay sent confirmation that the payment was recieved by knifesales. THEN it was over two weeks until I got the package. I say over 2 weeks because at the 2 week point I'm thinking, damn its been quite a while. I left neutral feedback because I didn't want to totally slam them but I thought a big sales business like that would send stuff out more often than once a week or at least say that somewhere on the auction page like some of the others do. I even put on my feedback, nice product, decent price...He didn't give feedback for over 1 month, I just thought he was mad and did not want to give me a positive because of my neutral. I guess he just gets around to things whenever, like the way he ships things sometimes. I did get an email from him today which explains the reason for his negative feedback, and I quote in full "First off, your feedback was bogus. If less than a week is too long for an item to ship- stay away from eBay.
Second, You would not have been able to bid. Your bids have been blocked from all my selling accounts and those of 4 other eBay knife sellers.
Thanks"
I love the thanks part, don't you? His "second" part is because I told him I was ready to buy another knife from him until I saw his unprovoked negative feedback.
So to recap, I paid very quickly and he never heard from me again about a problem with the product, etc. Then I left him neutral feedback. Five weeks later he slammed me with a negative feedback and said to "avoid" doing business with me. Now he apparently (if he's telling the truth) has blacklisted me with other sellers. If they follow his advice I guess it's their loss. He basically admitted in his email today that the only reason he gave me negative feedback is because of my feedback to him not slow payment, difficulty, constant emails, phone calls, bounced check, etc.
I was starting to feel like I was just bitching and moaning but seeing the reponses so far I realize it's about time someone brought this out into the open so everyone can decide if they want to do business with knifesales. Thank you all for listening (reading).

I've dealth with Knifesales on ebay and remember slow shipping, but other than that the transaction was fine. They even responded to my emails letting me know when they shipped and so on. This was last year so perhaps they're having some problems now.

Well this fella sure seems like someone to avoid. I don't care how much good feedback he has had. If he is going to leave negative feedback that contains lies just to be vindictive then he isn't worth dealing with.

are you in any way affiliated with knifesales?
No. My dealings with knifesales have been as a customer. I want to clarify the point of my previous post. You may well have a legitimate complaint against knifesales. My comments were directed at the use of feedback as a "first resort". I have spent quite a bit of time reading the eBay feedback forums and have seen cases like yours time and time again. I suggest you go to the eBay "feedback" forums and post your complaint there for the "feedback experts" to analyze and let us know what they say.

the first and most important lesson I've learned thru buying on ebay is this: If the seller is a powerseller, don't bother complaining if anything goes array, ebay will always side wtih them even if its violation of their policies. I am assuming knifesales is and this explains his arrogance. I don't remember dealing with him at all so if I have bought from him there's wasn't a problem as I would remember it. anything I buy and then thru paypal or ebay I don't expect the shipment to get here until after 2 weeks, but if paying with m.o. I don't look for it until 4 weeks

GOESFASTALOT:

Did you request that the knife be shipped promptly so you'd get it before the date needed? I don't think you should have left the neutral feedback, because it caused you unneccassary problems and stress for what seems like more a personal offense on the sellers part for not returning your emails. I have left 1 negative and 1 neutral during the time i've been on ebay and trust me I would have been completely justified with leaving several, if I am displeased I just won't leave feedback at all.

Well that kind of defeats the purpose of feedback, does it not, Ladycolt?

The feedback function exists so that fellow eBayers can inform one another of their experiences with a counterparty, be they positive, neutral, or negative. It serves the same primary function as this forum does for BF.C. Feedback is meant to be honest. That's the whole point. How difficult can it possibly be to comprehend that?

Several people have been disappointed in the complete lack of communication and extremely slow shipping experienced when dealing with this one particular seller. Further, he has demonstrated repeatedly that he is a petty, bitter, vindictive prick. In response, some of us have left him honest feedback.

Would some of you expect us to be dishonest?

I also think a few of you should read the definition of "neutral," as you obviously don't know what it means.

Neutral - adj Neither good nor bad; of medium quality; middling; not decided or pronounced.

the problem with neg. or neutral feedback when you leave it is it often does a 360o turn and all the negativity drowns you. If you don't acknowledge a person at all with any feedback the statement made has more impact than a few angry words. unfortunately more often than not there is to much emotion and anger put into feedback a lot I've read are quite vicious and petty. and when I read these type that are filled with cuss words and immaturity I disregard it partily and its less effective than no statement at all. If people could actually be objective when they get a neg. or neutral than yes the feedback system would be great, but they don't and my life's too short to waste it on who did this or that and who's fault it was.

The worry that some lying POS would come back at me with false negative feedback would not stop me from warning people that I had had a bad experience with someone. That is exactly the effect these people hope that their lies are going to produce. They figure they can bully people into not leaving anything but positive feedback. They can stick it where the sun don't shine.

Edited to correct a typo.

-I'm not quite sure what you mean by this...

If you don't acknowledge a person at all with any feedback the statement made has more impact than a few angry words.
-No it doesn't. No one will ever know that the transaction even took place. The "impact" of leaving zero feedback is exactly zero.

-It's a shame you don't trust yourself to leave honest, objective feedback...

...and my life's too short to waste it on who did this or that and who's fault it was.
-Again, need someone remind you the intended purpose of feedback?

I am quite aware what the intended purpose feedback is for: please check mine ebay id. is SHADOWWOLFWALKER

I've had three bad transactions on ebay and each one I requested assistance and each time ebay had another excuse why they couldn't assist. If ebay was truly a place that was impartial and fair I would put more value in the feedback system. First and foremost problem with it is how the hell to be objective and accurate when 80 characters are the max. After all there is no way for any rebuttal or addressing the complaint with what I believe you should be able too. I will not post neg. or neutral feedback not because I am afraid but because it really boils down to just people opinions and nothing more. If/or ever I get scammed on ebay I will not hesitate to post. Honor and intergrity is not sacred anymore and to make an attempt to get the seller to show honor and intergrity at this point of the game is more harmful and devistating than lose of a few bucks, why risk the possibility of ill health with any unneccassary aggravation and stress.

The best way to get done what is right is to file MAIL FRAUD. I did this and boy howdy the seller becomes honorable. The threat of Jailtime is far more effective than a few words.
