Problem with my new Zero Tolerance 0562 slicer

I received my new ZT slicer from Amazon today and after playing with it for a while I now find myself wanting to sell my Spyderco knives. Even my Southard seems like junk in comparison.

I'm probably late to the party but man this knife is awesome. I was a bit bummed that it isn't ELMAX steel but s35vn. I guess they did that to save some money, but it's still a great knife. The action on it is amazing, I've never felt anything like it on a knife that just uses bearings.

I won't bore you with a review, but count me fan.

Now what to do with my Southard and PMII?

ZT has moved all their Elmax models to S35VN now. There were lots of complaints about the heat treat on ZT's Elmax. By contrast, their heat treat on S35VN may be the best in the business. It does very well and I think you'll be better off with it. Sharpens easier too.

Hmmm I haven't heard that, that's good to hear that it was done for a reason other than saving a buck. Either way I really love the knife.

I kid about the Southard and military, I'm going to anodize the Southard, I already dyed the scales a nice midnight blue from the dull tan, gonna pimp it and have something different. the military I haven't carried in a long time. Not sure what it is, just never really liked it. I'll probably give it to my son or something.

I've got the CF version. It's one my all-time most frequent carry Knives. It just covers all the bases really, really well.

I had the 0562CF in 204P, smooth as they come and built like a tank. Funny though, I actually traded it for a Southard which I like but it isn't as nice as the 562. However my PM2 still wins out over both of them, 562 is a great knife though.

Congrats on the 562! ZT makes some awesome knives and the 562/562CF is one of their best sellers ever for a good reason!

Zt have a great detent set up and are really glass like. Much different from a southard. I never really felt any of the spydie flippers nail a good action. Domino was close but its hard for me to tell most of their bearing knives from a knife with washers.

I wasn't aware that there were any 0562's made in s35vn. I've seen Elmax. 204p, M390, and now 20CV. When did they use s35vn?

Wow I wasn't aware they switched the 0562 to s35vn. I guess i havent been paying attention. I have the original elmax. As tempting as it is to get a s35vn, i have a 0801ti on preorder. I'll live

S35VN is what they currently use on the G10 version. It's replaced Elmax throughout the ZT line.

Not according to the ZT website, knifecenter, Bladehq, GPknives...all of which show the steel as Elmax. What's your source for the change to s35vn?

It's a great flipper. Perhaps not the "slicer" that the name implies and certainly behind most Spydercos in that category. Curiously they pop up on the exchange quite frequently.

Maybe it's a fake? Although it seems unlikely that they got all the little details right on the knife then printed the wrong steel type on the blade, but you never know. Everything else I know to look at is spot on, the thumb-stud machining (clones are fully rounded), pivot machining, feel of the G-10, etc...

Definitely worth looking into, it was an authorized dealer through Amazon so a return wouldn't be an issue. If this is a clone it is one hell of a clone.

The 0562 is a really cool blade and one of my all time favorites.

Still love my spydies tho

Spyderco makes lighter, thinner blades and ZT makes heavier, thicker blades. Heavier blades usually flip better IME

I've seen some clones from China that were really good. CNC machines can duplicate anything. And yes the Chinese do go to a lot of trouble to get the details right, then mess something stupid up.

never heard ZT switched to s35vn from elmax for 0562. Maybe someone like whitty can chime in?
