Problems with Duch Customs

I have only had one bad customs experience (US customs). They seized a package coming in from Canada. They would not release it for about a month. It was a dangerous Ping pong paddle. They had a disagreement with the labeling on one of the other products the company sold for import (glue) and decided to hold all the packages hostage till the disagreement was resolved (and charged me 150% the value of the ping pong paddle in fees for "handling" the package for me. (lucky the company reimbursed me for it)j.

You never know when customs will get a bee in their bonnet.

hopefully your customs will calm down, and not destroy them (seems stupid to destroy them, why not send them back to the seller at the very least).

An update. My Hale dagger came through customs this morning and I went by the FedEx office to pick it up right away. So to make sure they didn't had a chance to change their mind.

My other two knives are still under investigation (as Customs told FedEx) but for what I don't know because they still refuse to communicate with me directly:mad: Even FedEx is starting to get baffled with this as their representative told me.

To make things even more strange. Customs told FedEx that it isn't allowed to import knives into the Netherlands but on the same day they released a knife so large (over 18 inches) that you can't overlook it.:confused:

I keep you all posted on this maddening soap.

Since when is it illegal to import knives (that are legal in Holland) into Holland?
Daggers are legal to own in Holland. So what is there case? Illegal materials used?

One OK! That's encouraging.

Sounds like an individual's decision on the matter. One bad apple...

I know they're legal ..... I've been importing them for nearly five years now without any problems. The knives don't have illegal materials on them (stone and walrus ivory handles)....and I still don't know what their case is because they (Customs) aren't willing to tell me. They only state that my knives are under investigation.

I'm not that sure about daggers being legal to own in Holland, Hengelo.
Specialy not after the announcement of the upcoming ban on Bali's and Auto's.
These will also become illigal to own.

Problem is, we don't have a lobby, collectors and normal knife lovers are largely unknown.
The only ones the general public hear about are those shortfused brats with their cheap China shit.
And the politicians, well what do they know?

As Piet stated;

Dutch Knive -laws are quiet confusing;

There seems to be a difference between what can be owned and what is illegal to carry.

Next to that Hirsch Balim Minister of Justice announced a change in legislation concidering total ban of automatic and balisong knives .

I thought stricter law changes were still in the ratification process.

Daggers (2 side sharpened) are illegal to carry but i thought it was alright to own them as long as they don't leave the house.

Marcel
i think in your case on the 2 daggers they have issues with the walruss bone??? Although i think the material used was from a lot before 1925 so within the lawcontext? for materials used??

Hope thinks work out for you.

Thinks get crazier and crazier concidering legaslation:confused:.
Thinks only made more complex and confusing. They should focus more on severer punisment of real criminals imho....

Great relief on 1 making it through. But thoroughly confusing.

I hope you're on a roll and the others are released soon.

Ken,

This is definitely not the place for this, so I will only repeat that there are alternatives to Mysticism (be it Christian or other), Relativism, Subjectivism, and the like. I will not turn this thread into a philosophical or political discussion, but I refuse to let stand your statement that rejecting Mysticism means rejecting all morals.

Joss,

I need help, where did he say that a secular state meant that no individual would have morals? Do you really believe that all, or even most of your fellow "Non_Belivers" are as moral as you?

Do you say that secular states do not naturally lead to a lowering of traditional feelings? I find that the ManBoyLoveAssiation and it's protection by the ACLU a stong indication that moving in that direction is not a good thing.

You do not have to be a "Christian" to believe that a strong church going population, professing a belief in the Christian code is a good thing for the state.

A. G.,

Shame on you. Can't you let that lie? I have said my piece, and I have said that this thread is certainly not the right one for a political / philosophical discussion. Why do you bring that up when you should know better?

I was writing a long answer, which would only result in this thread being locked, which would be completely unjust to Marcel. Why don't you just go somewhere else and start some other thread where this subject would actually be on topic? :barf: :grumpy:

Marcel, my friend, I really hope the issue with your customs people
will resolve itself soon resulting in the two knives getting to you in
mint condition.

I also hope that these strange way-off-the-subject intrusions do not offend
you too much. As you must have noticed, a lot of such stuff has been going
on lately on this Forum, and it should be ignored..... :)

See you in Atlanta!

All the best,

My bad is getting involved in this kind of discussion at all, where I lose friends and gain nothing. Sorry, I lost my head. For whatever self defence it is worth, I did not start it.

Thanks guys for the uplifting words and the useful information. There are a couple of holidays overhere now so I expect to give you an update somewhere in the middle of next week.

If you are trying to import any ivory other than mammoth ivory into the EU you better have a CITES for it. In any case, you need an attorney who knows import regulations or a Customs broker who does. But if it's ivory without a CITES, you're screwed.

Kevin, I've been buying knives for the past five years from all over the world and haven't had any problems yet. In this case the handle is fossill walrus ivory (I can proof that) but the problem is that Customs doesn't tell me why they holding these knives and they don't ask me any questions so I can inform them. I'm totally incommunicado with them.
