ProCut, new steel, it’s a good one 👍

How is the flatness of ProCut? It looks like most of the bars are bowing after being cut with a bandsaw.

I'd love to try this material. Could check alot of boxes for a base model steel, but Im concerned about bowing. I water jet my blanks and mill them and need a good flat canvas to work with.
I asked Joey of Pops about the flatness. He said that shearing out bars puts a bow into the steel but if you are buying full sheets those are dead flat.

The 3/32” piece I got looks like a banana. I didn’t notice the 3/16” or 1/8” pieces I got having much of an issue.

Same, the different thickness looked different as far as flatness. I hope they work on fixing that.
-and I hope they go thinner.

Thinner steel is easier to bend
I should have mentioned I wasn’t concerned about it at all. I was just offering a data point. I’ll do far worse things to it before it’s over with.

I really didn’t think much of it. It was just an observation. I normally grind to about 80-85% pre heat treat so a bow is pretty easy to correct before grinding with most steels. I’m assuming/hoping this won’t be any different.?.?.?

I'm the opposite. Normally I like thinner stock, and I grind post Harding....
I'm curious what mine are going to be like?

I have a straightening hammer, but twists aren't fun to fix.

Is there a consensus of best pairing for damascus yet? O1 or 1084? Or something else?
Salem Straub just finished up a mosaic damascus chef knife in CruForgeV and ProCut. It's on his Instagram. He did a fair amount of cut testing on it too, and shared those in his stories. Seemed like a pretty legit pairing!

I had made this one in ProCut when it came out and did a bit of testing with it and then sent it to 3 others guys to see what they thought of the steel. Got it back Friday and worked on trying to bring it back to near-new condition as I could. Someone got up into the plunge line and ricasso area and boogered it up pretty good. Re-etched a makers mark in it as best as I could but changed that design from my normal mark since this knife is not a seller.

All four of us agree that this steel makes a very fine knife and can be pushed hard and not fail you.
