I was wondering if anyone knows of any production made bowie style knives out there with a blade between 6-7 inches.. I'd like something that can take some abuse in regards to a baton. I was considering a kabar or a buck 119 but I don;t know how they'd hold up to stuff like that, Whle the kabar has a rep for tougheness the stick tang on there looks mighty small... Thanks in advance.

The CS Recon Scout will put you half an inch over. I think there's a lot to play with there, and a pretty good geometry to get you going. SK-5 should take a bat too. I wouldn't dismiss this one for that half inch.

I have to agree with BT-II and say that the Recon Scout is the best bang for the buck..put a convex edge on there, and go crazy.

If you want something a little more traditional looking, Bark River makes a few knives like you describe. Of course, they are also rather more expensive than some of the previously mentioned knives.

John, look at the BRK&T Rogue Bowie and Big-Sky Camp Knife.

Neither is a traditional Bowie (no guards), but both feature full tang construction and the Bark River no questions asked warrantee.

Plus I find the lack of guards on these knives make them better in camp or on the trail than the double quillian guard found on most Bowies.

A have both and have been pleased by their performance.

Yeah, if you don't mind Himalayan Imports, in addition to the AK Bowie listed above, they also have (Top to bottom):
Giant Chitlangi bowie
Cherokee Rose
Bura Bowie
Kumar Karda (more of a leuku than a bowie)

I did a review of both against each other, did you see that, I can put it up again?

they are nice knives, also like the RC6 and BK7, never used the ranger models, but I hear their good.

The KA-BAR is extremely strong ! ;)
The 119 is a great all-around knife. If you won't do any hard batonning it's strong enough. It's also quite a good chopper for it's size and weight :) It's my favourite knife :)

If you dont mind the used market, A company called Edgebrand used to Import some great carbon steel knives,
from Solingen Germany including some great Bowies.below is a link to one of my favorites if you keep an eye on ebay for Edge Brand you can some times get a good forged carbon steel bowie cheap.

I have a similar knife to the Rogue Bowie that I put together myself years ago but we called it the Natchez Bowie. I like the lack of guard on the knife. Used it at rondezvous.

If you can find one of the old US made Carbon V Trailmasters by Cold Steel, they are a tuff knife.--KV
