Production MT LCC vs. Custom Lightfoot LCC

I have both a manual and a dual action MT LCC (thanks Chief!). I've heard quite a few comments that the MT LCC is as close to a custom as it gets. How true is this (I've never owned a custom knive)? How close is the MT LCC to an actual Lightfoot custom LCC? What are the differences (other than price)?

Thanks,

Art

Greg's knives have a smoother action and use better materials than MT do. You can also order your knife the way you want it. If you want a different blade or handle material you can get it.
The LCC may be as close to custom( I am not sure I agree with that after handling William Henry and Chris Reeve knives) as you can get, but IMO it is not that close to what Greg has to offer.

Keith.

The custom version is lighter, since Greg uses titanium liners and Microtech uses stainless steel liners.

Do not get me wrong; I think the LCC is a great production knife. I love it and have sung it's praises. With prices at or around 125 for the manual and 225 for the DA. There are not too many pieces out there that offer as much bang for the buck in considering fit finish utility as well as cool factor.

There is no comparison in this particular case. All you have to do is go to a show and handle some of Greg's knives.

Thanks for the info. Time to get in touch w/Mr. Lightfoot for a "real" LCC

As luck would have it, Greg called today to say my "Special" LCC would be finished this evening.

I should have it soon, but having had two "less then favorable" experiences recently with mail to and from Canada. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting at the front door.

I'll post a picture and impression when it comes in.

John, I have had no problem with delivery from Greg. Hope you like the knife. Talked with Greg yesterday and he is getting ready to make my Dam LCC to go along with the 458 Mil in Dam I have. Have to find a pic of his new m1. Great looking knives, function is 100% and fit is 98%.

I have a Lightfoot LDC-102 and a Microtech LCC. For the price I don't think you can beat the Microtech but if I had to pick just one I'd keep the Custom. Here's a link to a pic of the new M-1

Will have an answer to that when my Lightfoot LCC makes it here from Hawaii (Thanks, Jeff!)

After looking the two side by side, the custom one looks almost too small. I find the MT LCC to be just the right size. Comments on the size of the "real" LCC?

Thanks,

Art

Personally, I like a knife the size of the custom LCC (3 1/8" blade, 7.25 OAL) it is a good knife for 3" jurisdictions because although it is technically over the limit, it is so close that it should not cause the carrier any problems unless he/she is doing something really ignorant. Remember, most knife nuts like a larger knife, but for many of us it is not a legal option.

MT LCC : Bigger, beefier, and heavier. Feels like it could punch through the side of a tank.

Lightfoot LCC: Much smaller (a tad too small for my taste), lighter, but damn it is smooth! Feels like a "gentleman's folder".

Weeeeell, the LCC arrived from Greg this afternoon. Two words come to mind . . . "Hot" and "Damn".

I was just about to write that the custom LCC wasn't as nice as the MT version, at least judging by what I saw on the side by side picture. But, now that I saw this picture above, well

I have seen the light, amen!

Quite a piece of art you got there, Mr Hollister

John, great looking knife. As I understand from Greg, that knife is essentially a custom Microtech LCC. I have an LCC in "Ice" Damascus with gold screws that Greg is working on now. Grayson Tighe has made me a matching pen in "Ice" Damascus. Will report when they arrive. I just ordered an M1 in Stellite from Greg as he said he had some blades now available in that material. Greg does excellent work and his designs are very fluid.
