Production MT LCC vs. Custom Lightfoot LCC

I own quit a few MT LCCs and this piece really complements them.

Here's a picture of the Large Custom LCC next to a Microtech 5/2000 Prototype LCC DA. And for those wanting to see the back of the knife, here ya' go.

As to the scales, I spoke with Greg at the last Blade Show and asked about the picture I had seen of the original knife he sent down for MT to make thier designs from.

It was a beautiful lefty LCC with this Blue G10 on it. He said that as it turned out, when Tony from MT called to get one, Greg didn't have any LCCs on hand. He wanted to get one dowm ASAP, so he borrowed the lefty from a friend/collector that lived near him and sent it down to Vero. Later he made a specific LCC for the designers at MT and he got the lefty back to it's owner.

Hesaid that the Blue G10 was a special run that he had made, but that he was running short of it when I asked to have scales made in it for this knife. I plan on ordering up a few more of Greg's knives and I'm hoping they all can have matching scales.

Let's hope he gets more.

I gotta get one of those "Suppressors" Greg is making.

John -

I'm gonna put in an order for a Suppressor - VERY nice knife. I'm hoping Greg can zero grind it for me, and use that cool blue G-10 of his.

John, again great conceptualization. As I have posted in the past , most of the pleasure I derive is working with the custom maker on a project. Buying on the aftermarket is not the same.
After the pen and knife arrive, I am going to have a small holder made to hold pen, knife and 3*5" Day-Timer notebook. The whole thing will have a zipper to avoid the lost pen/knife routine. Maybe I will have holder made for the new Kyocera phone that is also a Palm Pilot! The problem is that the design of handhelds is not stable as a 3*5 Day-Timer. Dick

I completely agree. I buy knives on the secondary market as well, but the ones that are truely special to me are ones that I have worked out details with the maker.

I just ordered a Tomahawk from Ryan Johnson. Sure, I could have gotten one for less by "buying off the rack" from someone else, but I'm having this one built the way I want.

Well, MT's titanium bolsters, carbon fiber scales and 154CM steel blade is enough at least for me...

I've compared my MT LCC to my 458 Magnum (which I sold), and honestly feel that the MT LCC easily compares to the custom knife in everyway, and surpasses it in others. Other than collectability, I don't see the advantage...

I don't want to get into an adversarial discussion about whether a MT LCC or a custom Lightfoot knife is better. Suffice it to say, I have a first gen MT LCC DA and Lightfoot 458 Mag in Dam. The pleasure for me is in dealing with the custom maker and knowing that I am obtaining the work of an artizen rather than a production or semi-production item. I do realise that most of todays makers job out parts and do the final assembly and that in some cases ther may not be that much difference, but with Lightfoot knives I think there are substantial differences that lead me to prefer a custom Lightfoot.
