Production Schedule & New Projects

That update on the 1st hurts...a lot...

Waiting for an orange RC-4...Izula...I could order a tan RC-3 to tie me over, but I was hoping to order in bulk so the wife wouldn't see each item arrive and give me the third degree.

Eh, what's a few more weeks on the OD RC-4s?
Hell, I've been chomping at the bit for an RC-6 since what? April?

Below is an email we sent out last Thursday to all of our dealers and distributors. Shon, Mike and I have put some serious discussion into these projects and we're pretty sure about these timelines now. In fact, the OD / Orange will probably be shipping sooner than I have listed below. We will not be doing any new projects until everything (that is currently public knowledge) is shipping. With that said, the Pelton project is moving forward. This past week, Shon sent a model of the first knife in the DPX Gear series to Robert Pelton. (No pics or photos yet but RYP is suppose to bring some photos back from Iraq and Afghanistan).

Again, we appreciate all of you understanding our situation and really appreciate you hanging in there with us. We ARE going to get these projects to market, even though we had hoped they would already be in the user's hands. Most of the delays rest squarely on Mike and my shoulders.

Onward!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

To all dealers and distributors of RAT Cutlery products:

We will be out of the country between July 17th and July 28th teaching a jungle survival class in Peru. Our manufacturer, Rowen Manufacturing, will also be on vacation between July 19th and July 27th so no orders will be taken or shipped during the time frame.

Production Updates:

RC-6 Knives

We are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel on the RC-6 production. We will DEFINITELY be shipping RC-6 knives without MOLLE backs by the middle of September since the manufacturing, tooling and heat treat issues have been resolved on this large blade. Please note that RC-6 knives will be shipped on a limited basis to begin with since we still have large orders of RC-3 and RC-4 knives going through the shop (including desert tan and OD green). With that said, once we start shipping, everyone who has an order in for RC-6 knives will receive at least some of their order. We are going to distribute the first shipments of RC-6 knives fairly among all of our orders. RC-6PMB and RC-6SMB (with MOLLE backs) will not be shipping any time soon. We have yet to find a quality vendor to build the Cordura MOLLE back and we will not release anything that is not up to our quality standards.

We are not accepting or entering any new RC-6 orders at this time. This is due to our backlog of current orders and the delays in this project. Once we start shipping current orders of RC-6 knives, we will accept new orders. Again, RC-6 knives will be shipping on a LIMITED BASIS for a few months once they start shipping. We cannot give any definite lead times for new orders on this knife. We apologize for all the delays.

OD green RC-3 and RC-4 knives

These should start shipping around the middle of August.

Izula Neck Knives

Rowen Manufacturing is building the sheath mold for these now. Once the mold is built and time is scheduled on the injection molding machine, then these knives should begin shipping. We do not have a firm shipping date or price on these knives at this time.

RC-5 SERE

Mike Perrin is working with Eagle Gear on building sheaths for this knife. We should have prototypes of the sheathing from Eagle by the end of this week. Once sheathing is approved and production sheaths are received, these knives will begin shipping on a limited basis similar to the RC-6 knives. We do not expect any RC-5 SERE knives to ship before late September. We do not have pricing on the RC-5 SERE at this time.

Ordering And Coming Projects

Due to the popularity of RAT Cutlery Knives, we suggest that you begin ordering and stocking current stock in larger quantities. This will keep you from having to re-order every week and possible getting put on the tail end of shipments, thus having to wait several weeks for knives after you are sold out. RAT Cutlery is only going to increase in popularity as time goes by. We are in the beginning stages of a collaboration with our good friend Robert Young Pelton, author of the The Worlds Most Dangerous Places, television host of the show by the same name, National Geographic Adventurer writer, and world famous adventurer/visitor to dangerous places. This new project is named DPX Gear and will be launched at the 2009 SHOT show. Robert will be at the RAT Cutlery booth # 12834 at the SHOT Show. For more info, see: http://www.ratcutlery.com/dpxgear.htm The RAT team is also working on film projects in the Amazon as well as new training projects in association with the Peruvian government, so the RAT name is only going to get larger in the cutlery world.

Looks like OD with Orange handles will start shipping this week to dealers and distributors.

Double yeah....been waiting to get the RC-4 in Orange....for....wait for it ...evvvvver!

I hope Derrick had them on order, I am ready to place my first order with KSF!

I see some of the Orange g10 rc 3 and rc4 knives for sale here and there from what looks like dealers. It seems not all of them come with sheaths. Also the prices are about 90-125$ but on your site they are $191. Whats up with that? Do you prefer to sell through dealers? I'm looking for a RC-4 with Orange g10 and Kydex sheath. Can you guide me? Thanks. P.S. I like that you keep us informed. Makes me want to do business with your company.

Have you checked with knivesshipfree.com? They are in stock and comes with kydex. I highly recommend them for business.

As for the prices, I have no clue.

We would rather customers buy from the dealers. We do not compete with our dealers and distributors, so our prices are set at full MSRP.

As for keeping our customer base informed, it is something that Mike and I agreed we would do when we started this business. There are way too many companies out there that don't let their customers know what is happening. Nothing secret when it comes to RAT Cutlery...we're as wide open as a Case knife!
