Progress thread "my first knife"

I think I'm going to go with some of the bookmatched scales havnt decided on type yet there is cocobolo, Bubinga, purple hart, some difrent colors of pakawood.... theres more I'm sure but cant remember right now

I'm leaning toward the Bubinga or one of the sets of cocobolo. with nickle silver bolster and nickle pins
I think I'm going to try some filework down the spine

ok so here's what I've done since last pics

I had to build myself a plunge grind guide to clamp on the knife because as you can see between the last pics and the new ones the plunge was kinda getting away from me and moved back until I clamped the guide I made on and got them set
the former knife maker who gave me all the knife making gear I'm using was over sunday, he showed me a couple things to fix and some things to do diffrently next time
think I have it pretty close to done. still have to drill some holes for bolster pins. and some random holes so the epoxy goes thru the tang for better hold.

I like the design. Looks like it will be a great knife. I might suggest some sanding before HT. From the pics, it looks like the blade is still rough (from the filework). Sanding all of that smooth after heat treat will be a pain. I go to 220 grit prior to HT.

well I'm all ready for HT got my bolster holes drilled and the couple extra holes for the epoxy to go thru. then gave the handle a once over by hand with some 40 grit belt to rough it up some. then I hand sanded the blade from 220 grit up to 500 grit. I'll take it to 800 grit to finish it. here's some pics

top veiw of tip (it looks realy thin but it's just a shade thinner than a dime at the very tip)

plunge from the bottom

One thing I can say, HT it now, it is too detailed work for a first knife, absolutely it will turn out great. I loved the filework also. Super effort...

Looking good and it should make a great knife. Are you still going to send it to me for the HT? If so let me know and I will keep an eye out for it. I have some serious stuff going on here but, I will get it done for you. Jim
