I have been paying around 4 bucks a gallon here on LP with the exchange tanks. and just a little bit under 4 for at the pump refill. but i just called a place here local that does bulk LP and asked how much do i need to buy to have it deleverd and thy told me 100Gallons. so i asked what the pump price was and he told me 1.99 a gal  yay about time i found a place that is not ripping me off. what do you pay for your LP.

I switched all my stuff to natural gas (running 3 salt pots as I type this), so I pay nothing---yes nothing, because my consumption still puts me below the next 'tier' that would bump my bill up a bit. So I see no difference in my gas bill whether or not I use my forging equipment.:)

What we do with forge and HT takes very little gas compared with typical natural gas consumption is concerned. I can run all day and it's nothing like starting a pool heater for just 15 minutes ...

Make the jump if you can.

(Sorry I can't help with propane prices---been so long since I bought that stuff!:o)

Just paid $3.19/gal today to fill my 100lb tank...I've been considering getting a bottle dropped here for delivery, but I'm going to be building a diesel fired forge so that doesn't make much sense anymore...

Wait till cap in trade kicks in if it passes in the senate. Will be 30 to 40 percent higher.

Yeah I guess $4.24 a gallon as a 40lb tank holds 9.43 gallons. That is high. I have been doing a lot of damascus and running my forge at welding heats for a bit and the 40lb lasts me for a few sessions. I would like to get a big tank once we sell the house and I get into the new place.

I have a big tank out behind the shop, get's filled once a year. Not sure what the price is right now but it's probably my cheapest expense.

Some places charge 25 bucks for a propane exchange,or if the rental place is open its 18.00 for a 20 pounder. There was a gas station that would fill bbq tanks for 13.00 but they caught on to everyone elses prices...

I just got in a few hours on the waste oil forge  Man for free that thing gets so hot I melted my temp probe!!! ( thanks to Will Leavitt for the design)

My supplier has been running a "special" in the month of June...I have a 500 gallon tank behind the shop, and it gets filled about once every 14-16 months. The special this time was $1.54 per gallon. Although my tank still have about 60%, I had them top it off. In the past its been over $3 a gallon here, but never more. I was kinda shocked when I read that some of you folks are paying more than that per gallon. The day before that I took two 20lb cylinders to the same place to have them filled, and the total was $14.

Ya gotta remember that propane weighs 4.24 pounds per gallon.

1++ on what Joe said regarding natural gas. Converted all propane items (forge, salt pot) to NG about a year ago. Will never look back. Works great and shows no difference on my monthly bill if used or not...

Sixteen bucks for a 20 lb tank at the refill point. The bottle exchange places are around 21 bucks for the same thing. Id like to get a hundred pounder but with my bum back its just too much to handle taking to the refill point.

WOW that means i was paying 4.66 a gal, :( ouch. that means it will cost me 9.38 to fill a 20LB :D

Here in Québec, 20$ for a 20lbs tank refill. The guy could not even tell me how much gallon that was. I knew but wanted to see if he did. Also, it's 20$ no matter how much they put in there so you better bring it back empty.

When I fill up my trailer tanks in the states, there is a meter and they only charge me for what they put in. They also open the little valve at the back while refilling. I've been told that if they don't do that you there is actually a small amount of O2 that can accumulate in the bottle and you end up getting less than you pay for but I have no idea if it's true or the physics behing it.

Any of you smart folks out there know?

What kind of pressures you guys running with natural gas? At my house the regulator tops out below 1/2 psi (9'' of WC).

Similar pressure as yours. Works just fine if you adjust the orifice size. For instance, my forge is a blown forge with a 1" deliverly line of NG, using 1/4" ball valves to control gas input to forge. You can see examples of my set up here --> http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6836723&postcount=10

BTW, easily reach 2400F degrees with this setup.

Thanks Eric! There's a 1" tee outside that used to be bushed down to 3/8th for a gas lantern. I capped that off years ago but it might come in handy now.
