Always trying out do us arent they? First its sheep then they steal our possums ..now its rabbit flavouted shiraz...theyre so forward thinking...God I hate them.
Jon, don’t hate them just feel the redemption that Oscar Wilde spoke of when he wrote, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness”. 😃

Akubra hats are rabbit fur felt...apparently they import the pelts from Putinland...what ? Aussie rabbits too hard to catch?
That does it! I won't buy one! (Price is not an issue at all.)
I wonder if a Panamoid hat could be made from corn husks. You'd have to keep it in a steel hatbox to protect it from 'coons, I suppose.

I wonder when Charlie will be opening the committal thread.

I’m in for one, although I don’t know that I qualify. I’m a long time lurker and only recently signed up for an account.

Im going to go out on a limb and say something that is not meant to be harsh or rude. How can someone think they could qualify for a knife with 10 post or less and created an account in the last 4 months.

As soon as I found out about the knife I told myself that maybe in 2 to 3 years if my commitment to this forum was at the level worthy of getting one, maybe I would qualify. I have seen these knives flipped for crazy money in numerous places. I guarantee you there were people that would of loved to have them for the right reasons.

Don't take it as an insult or even be disappointed. Im just going to put in my time and most importantly participate. Participation should not be made in order to get such perks. Participation should be made because you have a love for traditional knives and on the off chance you are in a position to purchase one so be it.

I have only been a member for like 4 months and at first was a little nervous to post anything but slowly but surely feel I am starting to build relationships with good people with a common interest. All I can say is dive right in. The water is warm and welcoming.

I originally posted a joke meme but felt I just wanted to speak my mind. If I am way off base I apologize.

I don’t even have that much of a ‘participation score’ as you mention in the number of months or posts, but it doesn’t mean I wouldn’t appreciate a forum knife for the reasons I think you are referring to. I have a collection I’m proud of, I just don’t post about it anywhere so I have no way to prove myself, I suppose.

Anyway, I can wait a few years if that’s what it takes. Perhaps I can get around to being more involved in the community. If not that’s fine too, honestly. It looks to be a nice knife, is all; a little like the oilfield 86.

Absolutely big yes from me , I love all the BF knives and they are the pride of my knife collection . Big thank you to Charlie 👌
In case I didn’t already say it YES from me 👌👌

I don't believe you're being off base or rude in any way. To be clear, I never truly believed I would qualify for one of these knives, I was just being hopefully ignorant and dreaming about possibly owning one. This is probably the wake up call kind of reply I need in order to not be slightly disappointed when the time comes. In any case, I'm both super new here and new to collecting knives in general, but the small interactions I've had here so far have been super positive and I'm excited to stick around. I'll mostly be jealously gawking at other people's beauties as I don't have much disposable income to be spending on knives. The rent is due every month and I need some money left over to take my girl out every now and again lol.

Now excuse me while I too grab some popcorn and watch from the sidelines.

Hahaha I hear you. Were riding on the same boat my friend.

Several years ago I passed up the opportunity to order a forum knife.
I met the qualifications but didn't really feel like a member of the community yet.
I knew I'd stick around and continue to participate... there would be future opportunities to get one.

Honestly, I think the best option is to always stay away from anything to do with the annual forum knife - it absolutely brings out the worst in people, even in usually very pleasant people, and will color your perception of “The Porch” and its participants. Longtime members get all exclusive and territorial and make the forum seem like The Jellyspotters (SpongeBob reference :D), and greedy newcomers start posting ridiculous low-energy posts trying to get their count up.

I took an interest this year only because I had a mind to secure a knife for a longtime member who might not be able to afford one.

It helps that I don’t really like GEC much.

Anyway, just an observation from another relative newcomer, for what it’s worth…

I found my previous post on the subject:
Sorry I couldn’t find a better clip, but this whole episode is a jab at enthusiast communities and their attempts at exclusivity. Just a reminder that we should’t be like the Jellyspotters. [Spoiler alert in case you want to find and watch the whole episode: Kevin is a real jerk and it ends badly for him.]

Here we go again. All this nonsense about eligibility needs to go. It is meaningless and very tedious and a major downer in tone - being alternatively rude, sycophantic, angry and mean spirited.

Not attributes that appeal to anyone here.

Can all posts about eligibility be declared off topic and moved to whine and cheese?
