Proto Photo - Glesser/Perrin NK

I had no idea this La Griffe/Cricket cross was in the works. What a pleasant surprise!
Another must-have Spydie. ;)
Sal, please, make it come true! :D

I like it a lot. Personally I hope they make it in Ti. It would be so light that you wouldn't feel it around you neck, it wouldn't rust, and it would still keep a decent edge.
Sal, please, make it come true! In Ti.:D

Got a chance to see/handle one of these recently and it promises to be a winner.

Hi Mike, How's my sheaths comin'?

We expect to be shipping production pieces in May.

{*heavy sigh & sound of hammer on piggy bank*}
Will these have the handle slabs or be skeletonized?
Thx!
Mike

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. :D That's GREAT news, Sal. Do plans still call for a Ti version?

 :) :D
I'll be picking up one of these little beauties for sure!
It should be interesting to see what steel is used, i'm confident that spyderco will choose well. ;)

Nice... but that dropping blade tip. Sure looks like a cutter/ slasher. But not a thruster. :(

Nakano

Mike, We should have both versions at the same time. Skeleton - AUS-6, Micarta scales - VG-10. same sheath.

Sorry Nakano, I guess we could regrind one for you.

Brian, no plans for a ti version yet. We'll have to watch response. We also have a folding version as a concept model. This is our first venture into neck knives as part of our new venture into fixed blades. We have no idea how the market will like our offerings.

Sal,

If you didn't get them Friday, you should on Monday. Went out 2nd Day Wednesday afternoon. I like this little critter!!!

Thanks for the additional info, Sal. I'm not normally a steel snob but I am surprised to see AUS-6. I guess it will help keep prices down.

I am sorry to learn that a Ti version isn't in the works yet. What do I have to do in order to pry that Ti prototype from your fingers? ;):D

Based on the reaction here, I think these will be well received by the market. Then again, the folks here are not truly representative of the overall knife buying public. Let's hope it does so well that you are inspired to design more innovative FBs.

Nakano,
At the size of blade the SPOT is at,
it's probably best limited to being a
'cut n' run' defense piece, like a super
small Civilian. Thrusts are generally
for 'combative' applications.
Spyderco generally takes the stance of
'defensive' design, as in just enough to
get one out of harms way, as priority,
but some of their designs are well suited
for 'take 'em down' as well.

My training leans me more towards the
combative side, but I really appreciate
the new exploration into defensive blades
by Spyderco. The SPOT looks like a good
backup for the 5" Perrin fixed blade also
from Spyderco(which is a proficient thruster).

take care,
Ken

Thanks Sal- I thought you mentioned that there'd be scales on one.
I'm with Nakano on wanting a "straight" version as well. Perhaps a limited BF run w/ a drop point instead of the Cricket-style blade?
Thanks again- this will be a great little knife.
