Prototype Arctic Fox Axe Puck

Just bookmarked your site so I can (hopefully) remember to pick up a puck when they're ready.

I'm guessing it'll be around the middle of this month, but we'll see how it goes. My manufacturing contact will be back from a well-earned vacation on Thursday and I'll be checking in regarding progress then.

There will also be rectangular 3" pocket and 6" field stones in this same dual grit blend. Probably an 8" bench stone eventually, but I'll be working on the American Mutt, Bull Thistle, and Manticore series next. :)

I'll be placing an order when these are ready. Do you know the weight? Sorry if it's been said already and I missed it.

Just heard back from my guy in manufacturing and they've got the blend on the pucks all worked out so that both sides fire to the same size and give a good flat result. They had to send a mold out for heat treatment because without it they were having trouble stripping the stones from the mold, and they'll be running some tests with the treated mold today. Should know more by Monday.

Looks great! Ill definitely be picking one of these up. I'm also interested in one of the benchstones mentioned.

will these be made in the USA?

Yup! Just like the scythe stones. Our manufacturing partner is sort of the "true heir" of the old Carborundum Company's legacy. Norton bought the company itself, and the rights to the name etc., but these guys bought all of the old molds that were still in good working order, plus all of the old model blueprints etc. Some of the stones they make are done using the original Carborundum Co. tooling. They currently produce some stones for big names like Smith's, Lansky, and others (though those companies also contract through other sources as well) but we're having them do some rather more complex or involved off-the-beaten-path stuff. From what I've gathered most firms commissioning stones through them right now mostly tell them "Make it ______ (coarse/medium/fine) as cheap as you can" and kind of leave the rest up to them. These guys know their stuff, though, and have been enthusiastically rising to meet the challenge. I'm quite proud to be working with them on this endeavor.

I put in an order the other day (along with the mutt stone and a ceramic stone). I'm looking forward to trying them out!

We should be getting through pretty much all the orders for them between today and tomorrow. We've successfully moved to our new location and are back up and running. Funny enough, my manufacturing partners had told me they hadn't quite worked out eliminating the tapered sides from the different shrink rate (which was just a minor cosmetic quibble) yet the ones we received appear to have pretty dang straight sides, so looks like they worked their magic on 'em!

Good to hear. I have a small batch of raw Tramontina machetes that will get filed, followed by the mutt and puck stones. Then maybe some axe work for both after.
