Prune Big, or Go Home!

I have been reasonably successful with using a regular sharpening steel . Not claiming that it is the best , but it works for me .

Harry

That's how I sharpen mine too Harry :) Wonderful knives guys, and I'd also recommend that excellent Boker book

I'ts been a Pruner day!! Christian allowed me to take custody of this great Tina, and no less than three Porch-dwellers (and one outsider!) sent me the link for this Abram Brooksbank "Defiant Knife" with Cannon etch, on the ubiquitous auction site. The Barlow is there for scale.
My heartfelt thanks to Kamagong for the Tina, and I could not NOT bid on the Brooksbank, with all that encouragement!!
:D
Two definitely different approaches to Pruning here;
For scale, the Barlow weighs 2.2 ounces, the Tina, 2.9 oz. and the "Defiant", 4.65 oz!!
Some light pitting on the BIG one, but it's still "full". It has thunderous snap (why do I get firecracker thrills when a knife slams home??:)), clean and flush joints, and Stag fitment worthy of the best Sheffield cutlery!!
The Tina on the other hand is a Ferrari!! Lighter, and sophisticated mechanically, snappy as a V-12!! It has a refined blade for a master Horticulturist, and a longer bolstering extension of its thick liners, supporting the blade for longer useful life!!
Two greats of the Pruner genre!!

That is one awesome Sheffield pruner Charlie. AreAthe bolsters integral? If only they could reproduce that for the forum knife.

Yes!! They are integral!! That last picture kinda shows them.
Thanks for asking.

Charlie, that Brooksbank is a stunning example of a stag Sheffield pruner, congratulations.

That Brooksbank is a treat. Clean and flush joints, fluted bolsters, stag worthy of covering a Tony Bose masterpiece. I wonder how much a knife like this would have sold for originally. Getting something made to the same level of detail today would be cost prohibitive, that is if you could even find a cutler to take on the job.

I'm glad you like the Tina Charlie. You said that it was lighter, but I suppose that is only in comparison to the Brooksbank. I thought it was reassuringly solid myself. I mean look at those liners! They are probably the thickest I've had personal experience with.

Two beautiful knives Charlie, I love the stag on the Brooksbank

It's the wood handles that make that substantial knife light in hand and pocket, Christian.
It certainly does not feel underweight!! Did you notice I sanded off the "varnish" and oiled it? I kept the bit of patina it has.

Thanks for the complements robbobus, Augie, kamagong and Jack!!:)

Congratulations on the Brooksbank Charlie. You can thank me for for going no higher with my bid. :D I feel much better knowing what I was up against. It is a dream of a knife.

Great Pruners Charlie, That Tina looks as though it would be a mean Slicer!
.......but that Sheffield!!! amazing Knife- I just do not know what is happening here in NZ, as I get told of knives in the big auction place - yet exhaustive searched do not bring up the knife- I know I would have gone for gold on that one! Stunning Knife!

We should talk before these things happen, Dwight!!:(:D (As If!!)

I wish I could answer that one Duncan!! (Or maybe not!)

I paid a fair bit, but I am quite happy with it!
