Pulling Trigger On First Emerson Tonight. Help Me Out.

Excellent choice. The Roadhouse just melts in your hand, and the position of the blade makes it feel so bad ass...
Definitely a fighters spirit on this one

A CQC-15. I catch my breath every time I open it. Seriously 'bad ass', yet practical.

That is high praise. I started looking at the CQC 15 last night and it has grown on me a bunch. Something about that handle is awesome and just looks like a hand would lock in. Crazy how the fever can get on you. I don't even have my first one in yet and I'm trying to figure out the second

We call this 'normal'. :)

You're gonna be sorely disappointed when you see how bad these are at opening beers. It was designed to be a blade stop in a knife fight, which is ridiculous itself.

Emersons are overpriced and not good cutters or slicers. A PM2 is a far better knife. I've owned a few Emersons. Bad blade geometry. They cut flesh and meat well, sure. But so does every other knife. Get a CQC-7 that's a useful tool. The rest are mall ninja gear. Proof? They all have blades optimized for lefties on right handed dedicated handles. Why you ask? Because it looks better in pictures of course. You see, I'm a lefty so the left-handed CQC-7 is a great tool for me. Not sure why all you right-handers have them though.

Go look at other right handed chisel grinds. They're mirror images of an Emerson.

Everybody has an opinion....

Whoa whoa whoa. slow down. I see that you don't agree with my pocket knife selection -but you can perceive the positive anticipation about my new purchase in this thread, yes? No need to take a dump on my excitement, my man.

I can open a beer bottle with the spine of every knife I've ever tried with knives from Cold Steel to Chris Reeve, Buck, Spyderco, and Benchmade. I have a good feeling that I will be popping bottles of Sierra Nevada, cutting up steak meat, listening to a good radio show, super stoked about my new Roadhouse come Friday night. I'll be feeling good. I hope you will be feeling good about whatever knife is in your pocket tomorrow night, too. Enjoy your PM2.

Now this is sh*t posting

Poor taste to come in this thread and post those opinions. I too like PM2's, but much prefer Emersons. I'll probably not venture into a Para2 thread in the Spydie forum and disparage them for fear of looking like a jerk.

I actually don't really like the PM2 and didn't keep it long but guys who like Emersons usually also like the PM2 and it has superior blade geometry to most emersons. Plus it looks pretty sweet and has a MUCH better black coating if you're into that. And yea I know any spine can open the beer but that line that the wave is a great bottle opener is hype.

I didn't mean to crap on your excitement. I too was excited before my first Emerson. Very excited. And the handles are great and the stonewash is gorgeous. I wish he would offer it on the two lefty models they make - cc-7 and commando. They LOOK fantastic but once in hand I quickly saw they weren't great tools - particularly the commando - unless your job is cutting people. You'll notice I had nothing but praise for the 7 which is actually a great tool, at least for a southpaw like me.

Since you said you planned to use it on the job I though your expectations should be tempered. As a self defense tool it would work great - in that they look pretty scary - but using any knife as primary means of self defense is dubious. You don't want to be the guy who escalates a fist fight to a knife fight and in general a real world knife fight involving untrained civilians will usually end with two people bleeding on the sidewalk.

I will admit though that Emerson makes great fondle-on-the-couch-and-show-off-to-your-buddies knives. But man if you take a critical eye to their marketing, it is full of hyperbole - hype - and in some cases advertising un-truths (not necessarily lies) and they are guilty of this more than any other knife manufacturer I've seen. But if you love knives you should have one. As I do.

I'm still super stoked and don't want this to turn -so anybody out there with Roadhouse love and some pics, please post 'em up! I have been looking all over for more pictures of the Roadhouse, comparison pictures, etc., to feed new knife buzz. Ready for the mail mañana! :D

Roadhouse was a good choice I would've picked that one initially had they made it left handed. Just be realistic about your expectations. I suppose that's all I was trying to say in an - admittedly - jerky way.

The left-hand chisel grind actually works better in some ways for me, despite being right handed. I'm more comfortable cutting towards me, and with the knife flat drawn towards me, the left-hand chisel makes a straighter cut, better than most v-ground blades. I only have a few left-hand chisel-ground Emersons though, a couple of 7s, PSARK, and SKBit (which doesn't really get used much). The rest are V-ground.

At first I was put off by the chisel edge, but realistically didn't turn out to be that big of a deal after getting used to it. I also got some reground and they're crazy slicers now.

I never understand why people come here to say how much they don't like Emersons. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I'm sure I don't like most of what this guy does. But there is no reason to rain on the OP's enthusiasm like this. If you don't like Emerson's Cassander, why are you in the Emerson forums?

Anyway, back on topic. OP, I think the CQC-15 is a great first Emerson. It combines the attributes of two iconic models, the Commander and CQC-7 into one great package. I use mine a lot and it works great as an EDC.

Yes you will... and you'll also be enjoying cutting up whatever else you want to cut up with that Roadhouse 'cause it's not gonna care what you want it to do, it's just gonna go do it and come back askin' for more. My mini-CQC15 is as good at slicing as any of the 8 Paras and Para 2s that I have. It's as good as my BM Volli. The only thing that outslices my mini-15 is my lightsaber. But of course, I can't carry that in GA. Speaking for myself "I don't always carry a folder. But when I do, I prefer Emerson. Stay sharp, my friend."

Enjoy the Roadhouse. It'll never let you down.

Thanks for the positivity, dalefuller

It has been my experience that tools do what you have them do (within reasonable capability). I'm not concerned in the slightest about performance issues with my new knife. The mention of the 15 again is starting to give me that itch, though...

Anyway, only one more day, UPS granting, and that Roadhouse will be in my pocket. First Emerson -woohoo!

Owned a Commander with a Bulletbeadz thumb disc I traded it for another knife but now I miss my Emerson! I'm planning on getting either another Mini Commander or a Roadhouse.

It's the simplicity of emersons that is awesome. I've taken apart and reassembled, cleaned my mini 15 and a-100 couple of times already. It's easy. I have sharpened the 15 and strop the a-100 it's quick easy and just as sharp as any other knife I have had.

I was cutting a AC filter with my mini 15 the other day, the filter had a metal mesh in it. I didn't know till I was almost done. It dulled, of course and I sharpened it back up in a couple minutes. Simple, strong, kool, great ergonomics, carries good for me.
