Pulling up stakes and breaking camp

Sarge,
Been away from the computer and just ran across this thread. Hope you log on one more time before you hit the road, so I can tell you what a privilege it's been to know you and learn from you. Fare well in your travels, friend. When you get to a safe stopping place, hoist a Guinness to all those who wish you well, and count me as one of them.
Berk

Wish I had time to come down and have a cold pint with you at the old Dog & Duck pub Berk. Good times. In my mind's eye, I can still see Pappy sitting there wearing his sly grin, and all of us standing out there in the parking lot, right in the shadow of the state capitol, sunlight flashing off gleaming blades. None of us would have hurt a fly, given our druthers, but to casual observers we no doubt looked like a barbarian horde, ready to pillage and plunder. Yup, good times. :D

Sarge, please get on when you are able to. I've just sent out the blade to James with the new sheath from Dan as well. I know that through the combined effort of both of you James will be much safer than before. As far as your wanderlust is concerned, if you find yourself in my vicinity please feel free to contact me and stop by for a home-cooked meal or two. Oh, and of course a Guinness (amazing that not only do we both like fine blades but good beer as well). Take care my friend and keep your powder dry and your knives close to hand.

Happy T-day, Sarge, from another old soldier.

A part of me envies you -- but not enough to follow your example. My wife and family are right here with me. They're happy now, following their own paths in their several ways. I'm happy to be here to support them. My day job still contains challenges I'm happy to meet (still feel like I'm contributing to something bigger than myself).

But maybe, some day...when these duties have been discharged, too. Who knows what the future will bring?

Vaya con Dios, amigo.

Yup.

That there brought a tear to my eye Berk, but by golly a happy one. Remember Pappy rolling up on his motorcycle, saddle bags stuffed with khuks?
Ain't that pic from the time Samurai Dave rode down with me, and we all met at the gun show? That's one thing that I'm sure enough bracing for, as far as some things go Florida ain't Texas, nossir, not by a stretch. Then again Texas ain't what Texas used to be. When I first arrived at Fort Hood, you didn't think nothing of a pickup parked out front of the PX on post, with a couple rifles stuck on the back window gun rack. Heck, when one of my brothers was stationed in San Antonio years ago, you could still purchase handguns at your local Wal Mart. Sigh, the times they are a'changing. Maybe that's why I live in the past so much, the past being 18th century and earlier. :D

Good luck Sarge. Been there myself. Might go there again someday. Life is much simpler when you can fit all of your posessions in a vehicle.

Have good travels and even better adventures. Holler if you come through Wyoming.

Alan
