yes that is the knife i was looking at i have also seen it in sportsman guide but is 80.00usd there do not want any japan blades ether but they may be good quality anyone?

Probably better than what they're making in Germany these days. Puma used to be great, but they went through a bad period, and I honestly can't say how good they are now.

Japan is just another country. They make better or worse, depending on who's paying for what level of quality.

The problem is, every industry outsources now, so it's hard to find any company that makes all its own parts for all its own products. Knife companies are no different.

yes i have found this out when ordered knife thought was boker when i get this it said on the box magnum a division of boker the has printed on there MADE IN CHINA! it went into the trash no kidding no use for that junk

Boker is good. Unfortunately, they confused the issue with Magnum. Magnum used to be its own brand, then Boker claimed it as a division, which confused people into thinking it was Boker quality.

I don't know why these companies pretend they don't know people do care about traditional quality under a traditional brand name. :(

For what it's worth, I think Japanese blades just might be a step or three above blades made in China, so don't let that hold you back from the Puma knife. That being said I would prefer the Puma over the Bear knife because the bear knife is patterned after the classic Buck 110, which I would prefer.

Also remember that whatever gift you give your father, he will cherish...

this is being of so much help! where can i find these buck damascus knifes have been looking for a site but can not find one that carries the damascus blades. at this point i am leaning to the puma, just do not like the looks of the bear blade even though it maybe of better quality or is it? also i am a knife collector but know very little of the damascus blades but i think i am getting to like them! when one is ordered for father is it ok to order myself 1 :o

You can have a Buck 110 made for you with a damascus blade by the Buck Custom Shoppe at Buck Knives.
And you can pick from a variety of handle materials as well.

Since the Custom Shoppe is not online at the moment, Buck is asking that Custom Shoppe orders be phoned in.

I'm not 100% sure that Buck makes its model 110 with a damascus blade ang my computer won't let me find the buck custom shop right now but you should definatly check it out, they have, for a price, of course, some beautiful handle upgrades as well as better steels (maybe damascus, but I really can't remember right now, sorry) You should absolutly look it up...Buck Custom Shop...also look in the Buck forum here at BF.C

Regarding your two options I have never handled either (this is why I avoided an answer), but, I too, would go with the Puma as I think highly of Japanese Damascus...

Both the Fox n Hound and Marbles Damascus knives are made either in China or Pakistan.

The Bear & Son Damascus knives are made in the U.S. , I own two Remington Damascus knives ( made by Bear) and they're not bad. On the plus side... the bone handles are well done... but the overall fit and finish is not the best.

I've also been considering buying the Puma knife. I hesitate because of Puma's inconsistent QC. However, I've read that the Puma Damascus folders have blades made of Japanese Stainless Damascus and they're assembled in Germany. Maybe you can email Puma?

But if my daughter bought me either knife I'd be thrilled.....
