Punctured elbow with a Matriarch 2. Just a reminder to be safe and stay aware when "fidgeting"! Maintain awareness. Have you ever got a silly cut?

Dang! Glad you made it out, albeit with a lifelong reminder. I've always wondered if a properly sharpened slipjoint of the right attributes could indeed make one lose a finger by folding up, like a Sodbuster or a Douk-Douk or something. That Douk-Douk, I have to gingerly two-handed close every time because the slipjoint is so violently strong, haha.

No, no no...back locks require 2 hands!!!, Im spoiled by liner/frame locks or axis locks... and a bit biased
Oh, I see, referring to closing back locks! Yes, I agree 100%, even though I am aware of the kick there to prevent the blade from hitting the backspace in most knives, I never feel comfortable letting a backlock just slam home, still always gingerly two-hand close a back-lock or slipjoint. It's also a good habit to have in public, not flipping knives around.

Alas, this incident did not happen while opening/closing, but while flipping with the ring. The mechanism wouldn't have made a difference.

I got a Kershaw Launch 1 a couple years ago for Christmas. It wasn't 15 seconds after I took it out of the box that I cut myself closing it. Ehh, oh well, you play with sharp things, expect to get cut...

My first satin Matriarch2 (a decade past) bit me every time I played with it, so it unfortunately never developed into a secondary or tertiary carry for me and preempted me getting the Civilian that I really wanted. My current black-out (TiCN) Matriarch-2 has yet to taste my blood (knock on wood ...).

Nice pic! I actually got myself a Civvie on these forums, but hesitate to carry it because I've got so used to waved blades, well that, and the fact that it's one of the first ATS-55 models, so... piece of history! But still, all those aftermarket wave companies, and not one for the Civvie, when I can fit an aftermarket Delica wave on a Lil Matriarch without issue.

Better get used to use many different systems... It's not that important. Adapt. No nice knife should be shunned because it's "unusual" to you (for some reason).
Man, what? Shun a good knife? I called it a piece of history and said that's part of why I hesitate to carry it. You used the term "unusual" in quotes, what did I call unusual? Adapt? Adapt to what?? To carrying the Civilian? I have no problem to adapt to, I have a ton of waved knives that suit me just fine.

I have no idea what you're responding to, here, my man... I complimented the guy's knife, then talked about how I own that knife, too, but how I prefer the Matriarch 2. I think you totally misread me in some way, cause I can't make heads or tails of why you seem to be saying that I'm shunning the Civilian, or even had a problem I need to adapt to. The Civvie doesn't wave. That's all I said, lol. I love the Civvie and all of it's spawns. I collect most of the reverse-S collection. It's plenty unusual, now that I think of it, but that's why I like it. Not sure how you'd extrapolate anything different from what I wrote...

Hey, hey... I just meant if it's not waved it's still plenty nice. I shunned liner locks for quite some time because I felt they were not "trustworthy". Nowadays, some of my favorite knives are linerlocks. That was the gist of it. No need to jump to the ceiling.

I agree, you were just using words like "shunning" it and I was just confused, like, I think I'm the biggest reverse-S nut on these forums lol. Don't mind my wordiness.

Assuming when you write Civvie you actually mean Civilian aka Spyderco C12G, I would say there is more than enough steel there to create your own waved version in about a half hour. Couple variation images below. Also, searching Charlie Mike (R.I.P. Matt, we miss you) and/or CMFTW for Civilian Wave Mod's should bring up a number of excellent examples of his past works.

EDIT: link to get ya started

I am NOT representing the images below as being from Matt (simply generic waved Civilians to my knowledge to give cursory overview of two variations).

Blade broke OFF? Dang, that is some cheap steel.
Glad it was alright!
more precisely, the blade broke from the handle assembly (cheap plastic, obviously!). in retrospect, it makes me wish we all walked around with cameras, as most of us do today.
but on further consideration, i withdraw that wish!

I have seen the works of Charlie Mike and admire them greatly, I regret that I was not in the knife scene while he was still alive, RIP to the man. Absolutely love his designs, though. I saw his waved version of the Civilian, it was great. I very well may try my hand at this.

I bought a limbing saw that had no scabbard or sheath of any kind. I thought I would use the cardboard blade cover that came with it to make a make shift sheath with duct tape. First thing I did was cut the plastic tie that held it in. When the blade cut through the plastic tie the knife shot across and hit me in the webbing between the left hand index finger and thumb. I had neosporin sitting right there so put some on then made the sheath. After that was accomplished I went and washed it with soap. Someone else on this thread said every time he has cut himself it was a stupid move and I have to agree.

Cutting hair from the beater bar of our vacuum for my wife (w/ my endura) back in the day. Cutting toward myself as every smart user should. Knife slipped and tip embedded in my thumb. Bled like crazy, but actually didn't go in that deep since the bone stopped it. All good w/ some super glue. And yes, I'm a dumbass.
For a second I pictured your wife’s hair rolled up into the beater bar and you cutting her free. Reading comprehension has never been my strong suit.

Though I also frequently suffer from the first-glance misread, I didn’t see it this way, but only because I’m constantly cutting dig hair and yarn scraps from my vacuum beater bar. But the images this conjures still gave me a chuckle. 🤣
