Purchased a new weapons reference book that may interest many of you.

Thanks for the tip, JJ.

I'm going to go look for a copy.

Have you had any experience with software programs to catalogue and track firearms collections?

No problem, Steve.
Hope you are able to locate one and that you end up enjoying it :)

As for software for firearms collections, no, I don't use such methods.

The truth is that I'm very "old school" when it comes to my collecting habits. I have a three drawer filing cabinet in which I keep folders of information about my collectibles (including weapons).

Many of these folders house catalogs or company literature showing the item(s) that I'm collecting. These folders also usually have detailed information that I've found and copied off of the internet about them. I save specifics about each one such as serial numbers, any deviations that may be present, etc. Photos and other relevant things are also stored in these folders.

Yep, old school for sure, taking up a lot more space and time than the modern info storage methods, but for some reason it just feels right to me.

Probably not for everyone, but I still prefer the traditional methods on keeping such information :)

I guess my way of thinking is the reason that I still prefer books as reference guides to my collectibles over computer software, though I have nothing against storing dvd videos and such pertaining to the collectibles that I own. I consider some of these "electronical" methods as a nice addition to my more "traditional" methods, one enhancing the other, but the traditional information storage method being my main method for my collections :)

JJ, thanks for the info. I went to my local Borders, and they didn't have it, only the full price version for about $40.
A day later I visted a Waldenboooks store (affiliated with Borders), and they had the book for $7.99. So I purchased one.:)
It is a very nice book but not a good history bok. It is actuallly a picture book about the Berman collection. It deals mostly with curiosities than with actual history of the weaponry. Still, for $8 it's a good buy and a nice coffee table book.

I've got to go to the Big City soon, and for 8 dollars count me in. I think we have a Waldenbooks.

Take care munk with the big city and I may have to move to a small town soon.....quite unsettling as I have been a city slicker all my life.

Funny that you mentioned this, , especially since I'm tired of seeing my modest book collection stacked up in a corner of my bedroom

My energies will probably soon be focused on a proper way of storing and displaying these books.

Nothing I hate more than to have to unstack 15 or 20 books to get to one that I want to look at :grumpy:

I may even make matching color protective covers for them all,................. what'ya think Astro,........... would fluffy pink and Austrian crystals be too much :D

Hey Jimmy in that process of looking for the 1 book you want to read...? You may find 5 ! :)

Hey if fluffy pink's your thing ? I trust you on that ! :D. Another note....goes well with Lapis (blue) and citrine (yellow). :D

Thanks for the tip. I just picked one up for 7.99. Its a nice picture book with decent blurbs. I only leafed through it but is looks very interesting and can't beat it for the price.

Astrodada- send my your address again. I've a couple rocks somewheres beneath my feet under the desk, and as I continue cleaning they'll be uncovered and I can send them to you. I picked them out a long time ago and they've been buried by paper avalanche.

Yep- I know I spaced it out, the papers and other living items covering them. When I was a Mod I'd asked you for a self edit or a situation similar to that, and you did so graciously.

so Thank You.

What..................... you don't feel it will also go well with bright white?... :D

LOL!........ ;)

Yeah, Walden Books "is" tied in with Borders.

I am guilty of being too cheap to purchase a "brand new" Blue Book Gun Value publication (I think they are about $40), so I every now and then update my copies with a "new" last years edition (usually I can get them for less than $10, and it's good enough for my needs) ;)

Walden Books is where I usually get them.

Jimmy do you have an ISBN númber for your book? I've tried a search on the title, but it returns a different book / cover.

The ISBN is............... 0-681-28861-2

But, the publishing company wrote to me that, except for the outer sleeve and cover, all the rest is the "EXACT" same (quoting from the publishing company email response) as their standard offering.

The ISBN numbers on the bargain Borders edition may very well be the same as used for the more expensive book (same book, different cover).

Then again, a slightly different title will probably earn it a different ISBN................. but I just don't know for sure.

Hope the numbers can help you some :)

Oh, just to confuse things even more, Chuck Wills seems to have two different standard books out with either similar or identical titles.

One is done using mostly weapons housed at the Berman Museum, while the other is done using weapons mostly from the Smithsonian Museum.

I'm a bit confused with that alone, then we throw in the Borders edition Berman Museum version,........... and oh boy do we have room for being confused ;)

Here is a photo of the standard Berman Museum "non" Borders edition of my book:

And here is the cover to the one that is done using the Smithsonian Institutes items:

Guess they figure they'll get you one way or another :)

Sorry Nordic, I had went back and added some links that show what I mean about the standard Smithsonian and standard Berman versions (seems like the same title, same author, but based on two seperate collections.

Notice the photo I had put up in an earlier posting above where it shows the cover of my Borders edition? It may be a bit different than the standard Berman edition, but you will notice the same weapons photos.

However, if you notice the standard Smithsonian edition, it's cover photos are obviously different than that of either the standard or Borders Berman editions.

Yup, they sure made things confusing, but just go to Borders and ask for the "cheap" one............... LOL! ;)

I could, BUT the gas price alone would kill my budget :D

I tried to find it online for you, but I can't either :(

Maybe if you call your nearest Borders or Waldenbooks store for some info, they may be able to help (ask for a manager or something).

It's weird, but I know for sure that they are real,....... I'm not imagining things................ (twilight zone didy in the background)........... LOL! ;)
