Purchased a new weapons reference book that may interest many of you.

I could, BUT the gas price alone would kill my budget :D

Oh man, I'm really sorry, I did not realize you're located in Sweden!

Not sure if any Borders or Walden Books are located in your country, but if not, I can fully understand why you can't just "drive out and pick one up".

The publishing company, "HYLAS", gave me a very quick response to an email that I had sent them. Maybe if you contact them in the same way, by email, and just ask them if any of these editions will be sold in your part of the world, and if so, where they can be found.

Again, sorry for not realizing your location

Good luck :)

Haven't read the whole thread yet so maybe someone already mentioned it...

But I stopped by the Barnes & Noble store in Carbondale, IL last weekend, and was flabbergasted to see a whole stack each of two of my favorite books on the bargain rack, both by R.L. Wilson.

"Steel Canvas- The Art of American Arms"

and
"The Peacemakers"

I remember drooling on the pages of these 5 years ago at a local store. My wife bought both of them for me for my wedding gift. I believe they were $80-$100 each at that time. Now, they're like $12 and $20 respectively!!

If you can find them for that price, I highly recommend picking up a copy.

I just got a discount coupon for a one-day sale at Books-A-Million this Saturday. I'll look for it there if I am in town.

I owned the Steel Canvas book some years back, but gave it to a good friend of mine who is also a big fan of firearms and their artistic values.

I second the recommendation :)

I just got back from a trip out to some stores, including "Barnes and Noble" and "Borders".

First thing I did at B&N was to look for the "Steel Canvas" book. They had a small stack of them but were priced at $20, rather than the $13 they have listed on their internet site. If they would have had it for the same $13, I would have purchased it to replace the one that I had given away years ago to a good friend. But, though it was tempting, I don't really "have" to have it, so I passed it up at their in store $20 price tag.
They didn't have a ton of them on display, but enough, and their outer sleeves all looked as if they have been through quite a bit of fondling (they are seriously looking shop worn).
They may just blow them out soon, and if they do, lowering them to their website pricing ($13 or lower), and I see it at that price, I'll definitely be getting one :)

While at "Borders", I looked for the HYLAS' standard Berman Museum edition of "The Illustrated History of Weaponry", and found it in their military history section. I then compared it side by side with their HYLAS Borders Berman Museum edition (which is titled "Weaponry, An Illustrated History"), and I found that, sure enough, except for the title and some differences on the outer sleeve & cover, the inners are identical.

The Borders edition price $7.99
The Standard edition price $29.99

Equals a savings of $22 when choosing to purchase the Borders edition over the standard one :)

Another way at looking at this is................... at $7.99 per each Borders edition, one can almost purchase four of them for the price of one standard one!

That makes out to be some good favorable math ;)

PS.

Doing such a thing, buying the bargain priced book, would allow one of two things............

One, it could save you $22 when buying the bargain edition :)

Or two, you could get 4 of these books, keep one for yourself, and make three dear friends extremely happy :)

I love a BARGAIN!

I picked up a copy of this book at Waldenbook's the other day. I paid the grand sum of $2.18 for it. It's a good introductory book with a lot of quality illustrations and should make a great tome for the coffee table.

Just to add to the confusion, many cartridges vary, even between manufacturers. Various manufacturers have produced .44 Mags with cylinder throat and Bore diameters in .427, .428, .4285, .429, .430, .431 and .432 (those that I know for sure). The differences between tight tolerences used by S&W and Ruger, and those used by some others often cause problems. For instance, a revolver with cylinder throats, say .427 or .428 diameter, coupled with a barrel groove diameter of say ,431 or .432.....does anyone see a potential problem with obturation, gas cutting, or in the case of jacketed bullets, the bullet rattlin' down the barrel from side to side? I kid you not! The reverse condition causes pressure jumps. The only way to know for sure is to "slug the bore" by driving very slightly oversized soft lead balls thru (I use .433; they start quite easily...from Hornady or Speer) and do the same thing WITH ALL SIX cylinder throats....even there you may find variation!!! Fortunately there exist some easy fixes!
