so i had to do it. everytime i saw one, i wanted it.. I have a Becker Necker and loved it so much (price and quality) i wanted another becker. i needed a larger knife so what the hell.. i also purchased the Endura to go with it.. a few questions i have been pondering. the knife should be in early next week.

1. do you guys use locktite on the handle screws?
2. does this knife need to be oiled (rust issues)
3. does the endura fit in its little built in slot in the BK9 sheath when its wrapped?
4. are both knives 20 degrees?
5. grip tape on the bk9 handle?? if so what kind or a better alternative?
6. how to cure my knife disease. its not full blown like some i have read on here but its really progressing at a rapid pace.

7. any other mods worth doing on the BK9 other than taking the black off? btw i will not be taking the black off

Strip it, remove the thumb ramp, add micarta grips and beat the hell out of.........that is all for now

I don't use loctite on any of my stuff and the bolts never loosened unless I was trying to.

Slight oil on the edge will keep it from rusting since you wont be stripping the epoxy coating.

And the endura? Im going assume you mean remora and yes that does fit in the sheath, its actually made for that and at one point were sold as a pair.

As for mods, grind the thumb ramp is on of the most common mods for the 9. You can add a choil to if you like them for finer work but if your piggy backing a remora there's no need except cosmetic.

Congrats on ur 9, she's a beast

AWESOME knife, VERY versatile. I ain't broke mine yet, though i thought it might on 2 occasions, it did not. HD hard use blade you just got. Enjoy

If you buy micarta you don't need locktite, those scales don't go anywhere. The knife with it's coating does not need to be oiled because sharpening/using will take the rust off, even if you stip it oiling/rust is not a big deal, I bought a 710ml bottle of boot oil for $5 and oil it maybe once a month. A nice alternative for the handles, instead of micarta, is to file the grivory with a diamond shape pattern, or to wrap it in ranger band(inner tube) or gun tape(comes right off no residue). Honestly do yourself a favor and get some micarta, especially for a chopper/baton machine. By endura do you mean remora? If so it does not fit in wrapped, but I never use it for anything other than a firesteel striker.
and finally no. Knife disease is not curable. At least so long as Ethan is still alive. Every becker is just as awesome and fun as the last and the feeling never wares away. Sorry bud.:D

That's it. Just end the thread now. Nothing else of any kind of importance can be said. ;)

Pretty much 'cause I'm thinking the same thing. :D

^^^Im with this school of thought. Strip it, grind the ramp off (who needs a thumb ramp on a 9" knife? lol...sorry Ethan). My 7 is keeping the ramp, and getting a choil as it's gonna be my all-around Jack of all Trades knife. When I finally get a 9 though, I will be getting rid of the thumb ramp and MAYBE putting a small cosmetic choil in, just to make it look like something a space marine would carry lol.

You could always try some filework on the spine/tang if you're into the detail stuff like that.

I missed the remora "wrapped" part. No it wont its meant to be barebones. Also I used hockey tape on my 9 for awhile until I was fully bites by the mod bug and got micarta and now wood. It was very grippe but also somewhat sticky on the hands after some sweating, it didn't bother me but others may not care for it. The 9 is 20 but I believe the remora is 15 degrees.

Here's a pic of the hockey tape handle

I've literally beat the shit out of one of my BK7's and it just keeps goin and goin......Becker knives are just down right tuff

nice thanks guys! the thumb ramp wouldnt bother me, i just wont use it. i meant to say Remora, not endura..ugh what a long day.... great info as usual. i cant wait to beat the hell out of this thing. just wished i camped more lol.. the wife wont camp when its 100 degrees and sticky as glue. i would. so i cannot wrap the lil guy? thats ok. i ll do a lanyard instead.

I've beat the crap out of my Remora. I love those little things. If anyone gets one and you don't like it; send it to me. :D

hey clichtenwalner1, how did you get that great patina on the 9?

Mustard applied with a chip brush in random pattern, sits for 20 minutes, washed off with apple cider vinegar and reapplied 3x.

If you search "the rattler" it gives a how to with pics

Congrats on the BK9 Bro.

I changed my handle hardware to Stainless bolts and Ny-loc nuts. Had an issue with the original nuts coming loose while I was chopping.

i have read that the bolts come loose when beating it up.. i may loctite it anyway.. thanks!!

nice petina on the 9 a few posts above... i may decide to take the black off.

Grip Tape will work. I sprung for Micarta but somebody said they bead blasted the stock Grivery handles and they are real happy with the result.

Get a bit of paraffin wax. Melt it. Swirl plain cotton balls around in it. Leave some cotton balls unwaxed. Put them all in a small sandwich bag to be lit up in an emergency with a fire steel like the one below. Stuff it all in the 9's front pouch. Slipping a disposable lighter in there doesn't hurt either.
