Purple! Because Ice cream has no bones!

Birthday month for a lot of us in the sub. Me, Mrs. Redmeadow, Dennis, Scott, Mack, Chris, John, JB, who else?

We try to go on a trip sometime in the month of May every year to celebrate. Going to the Rocky Mountain Leather show in Sheridan, WY and then to Devils Tower, Deadwood, Custer Battlefield.

Happy Bday everyone!

Thanks Dave, hittin 48 years young this month. Lookin forward to Sheridan, the leather show made for a good excuse for a road trip. The kids are excited, they love everything Wild West/Pioneer and can't wait to see a shootout in Deadwood.

Speakin of pioneer stuff, we don't watch a lot of tv but the kids love that Gold Rush show. They really want to pan for gold so I cut up some shot shells and hammered up some 7 1/2 shot, 00 Buck and a 1oz slug, painted them yellow (didn't have any birdshot, I have a soft spot for winged crittters). Filled up two buckets with dirt and rock and sprinkled it throughout. It's heavy enoigh to pan just like gold and they're having a blast.

We made a deal beforehand, I told them since I've gotta use the tractor to mine and haul their paydirt, supply the pans, and water supply I'll do it for a percentage of their profit. they negotiated me down to 25%. It was fun to watch a 7 & 9 yr olds wheels turn to work up a deal, Momma coached them while I played the hard sell.

I put 15 ounces between two buckets and said I'd give them $2 for every ounce they found. They don't know how much is in there. They set a goal yesterday that they wouldn't stop until they hit 4 ounces, luckily they hit it before dark. They're getting good at working a pan, it's pretty impressive to watch.

After painting everything yellow they made for some good gold nuggets.

It is indeed a great story I luv it. Our ranch was mined during the California Gold Rush. Still have areas with debris mounds from the long toms. The wife’s 50 this month. Top secret big doings going on.

Good Morning all y’all!

Teaching them younguns!!

My niece hails from Whitehorse Yukon…
And she has another Summer job of helping with a dig about 5hours North Whitehorse…

That's awesome Randy, is that a rack on the ground to the left? Saw an Irish Elk in a museum recently, looked like a cross between an Elk and a Moose!

Hey John!
That Irish Elk has a monster rack, for sure!
I will ask Alyssa about that antler...

If your kids like dinosaurs, you gotta bring 'em to the Royal Tyrrel Museum!!!
Crazy cool place, huge skeletons & interactive stations, and hiking in the hoo doos...!!!
Drumheller AB...

Have a good day John & gang!!

Oh they'd love to see that. If I ever get up to Alberta I'll let you know, the brontosaurus burgers are on me!

Wow John, that is one of the coolest “Dad” stories I heard in a long time. What a fun creative thing to do. The memories of this are going to be pure gold for your kids the rest of their lives.

I hope your Birthday celebrations and family vacation are equally fun.

Phil

Thanks Phil, if all they remember is that Dad wasn't a total jerk I'll consider that a win😁 Though I do hope they learn a little bit from their old man, only time will tell!

yup, that he is a good guy, and still has bad dad jokes. ;) My daughter sends me some dad jokes to see if I can improve any of mine.

My daughter loves the classic Knock Knock jokes, she laughs every time at this one....

Knock Knock
What's there?
Boo
Boo Who?
Aww don't cry

She loves any kind of "play on words". I was worried about my boy for a while, absolutely zero sense of humor until this past year, now he's a regular comedian.

what did the dung beetle say when he entered the bar? Is this Stool taken?
what did the pile of manure say? I’m pooped!! (literally ).
where does Han Solo get his pizza? At Jabba the Hut. no one out Jabbas the Hut.
I ate 6 cans of vegetable soup for lunch. I just had a good VOWELL movement.

Told you these stink!! pun intended.

Thank you, fellas, for the support. I actually tuned in here to comment on something else and didn't expect to see that word had spread. Goes to show how special the community is here - it's not just an internet board, it's good people and good friends. My brother's girlfriend and little boy are going to be well set up for a spell while they try and regain their footing.

With that said, I'm looking to get me a new hat. I've been rocking Stetson and Pendleton crushables for years but am inclined to get myself a "real" hat. I will say though, I am experiencing a bit of sticker shock - real fur felt hats ain't cheap.... 🤯
Oregon has some great custom hat makers though and I'm hoping to visit one outside of Sisters in a couple of days when I go out that way to pick up my brother's urn - a positive note on what will otherwise be a somber day.

(Edit: Just in case my post is taken wrong, I am not the organizer of my nephew's and his mother's GoFundMe and I will not see a dime of it. It is strictly for them to subsist on until they can gain their footing back. Even the funeral expenses are being covered outside of those funds. Here I am talking about buying an expensive hat not long after a GoFundMe link is produced - not the greatest look.)
