Push dagger assistance

I carried a Safe Keeper I (now out of production) for a couple years in sketchy areas. The Safe Keepers have normally ground dagger shaped blades. The Safe Makers appear to be ground normally on one side, and the back is ground on a LARGE diameter wheel. When you lay that side flat on the table, only the edges will make contact. The center will be off the table a bit, depending on how big the wheel was. I've heard of wheels for this type of grinding being as large as 4 feet in diameter. Sushi knives also use this type of grind on the back sometimes.

The first thing you need to do is confirm "Push Daggers" are legal to own in your area. In many countries they are now illegal.

Good luck.

Hello. Im new here and my "search" didn't yield a lot of easily accessible results, so I shall ask you:
Can anyone suggest a good push dagger for everyday carry, (for work - not the display case)? Double edged with a "clip on" the sheath?, primarily for inside the belt carry was my thought.

Ive seen the CS safe keeper and safe maker, (not in person, but online), but have read that only one side is sharpened and the other is "stone ground and not sharp", which I assume means not sharpened or able to be sharpened....correct??

Any brands better, sharper, better reputation than the rest?

Anyway, I didnt know and figured you all would.

I appreciate and thank you for any assistance or suggestions you can provide to me.

Oh, and cool forum....think I will stick around for awhile!

Thanks for the link, sir. Yeah, they would be legal for me, LEO.
Looks like Ive narrowed it down to the Benchmade 175 CBK; the CS safe keeper II or safe maker II

CAN anyone give their recomendation between those 3? Ive read a lot of conflicting reviews about all them...one will say the blade isnt sharp enough, yet another will say its plenty sharp. I have handled a TBK and Im thinking I would prefer the handle of the CS.......any first hand experience???

As always, thanks for your assistance!

The CS will probably be more comfortable. CS as you've seen has specialized in push daggers beyond other companies, so you get a good variety of choices.

The Benchmade isn't especially comfortable but it's the one i got and it fits my grip well. Easy to customize a wood or Micarta grip, or just cordwrap. It is almost a small version of the Seraphym, double-edged but ground on one side.

The only push dagger I can get away with carrying is the Com-Tech Stinger! :p

You better check your laws closely, a double edge dagger is illegal to carry everywhere that I have ever researched and push daggers are iffy because they have no other purpose besides defense aka a "weapon" in Johnny Law's eyes.

It's OK. He is Johnny Law. :p

Incidentally, not every jurisdiction forbids them. New Hampshire, for example, just threw out all their knife laws. Anyone there can carry any knife any time.

To hit a vital organ it is recommended that you have at least 2.5-inches of penetration, so the BM 175 would barely make the cut. The CS models are longer allowing better penetration through clothing or body armour and still have the necessary 2.5-inches of penetration to hit a vital organ.

I wouldn't worry to much about the sharpness as you will acquire a sharpening tool and make them as sharp as you want them to be or hire a professional knife sharpener. It is not as though you will be using this knife very much, so it should stay sharp a very long time.

Take care,

GP

The Safe Keeper used to be called the Terminator.I've had one since the late 80s.Don't fret about sharpness,it will be.Did you ever watch the movie Platoon?Tom Beringers character carried one in it.

of the cold steel models the safemaker has rounded edges so it would be more comfy than the safe keeper. I prefer the blade design on the safe keeper though. The safemaker is scary sharp and reminds me of the sr71 blackbird with its blade profile.

Also check out Shadow Tech knives. They make a very affordable push knife in two sizes. And their sheaths are very functional.

^^^^thanks for the info, guys. I will check out the shadow tech and the com-tech stinger, too.

Incidentally, (in MY experience), none of you would ever need to be concerned with the mean 'ol eye of "johnny law"....Ive let a LOT of "illegal" knives go....in most cases. (again, MY personal experiences with employment at 2 agencies), unless youre a dirtbag, doper, felon, a-hole, disrespectful, etc, you wont have any problems and will leave with your knife. I will want to be the one holding it while Im contacting you, (if I even see it to begin with), if we're face to face, (not in a cop at your car window situation), but you shouldnt have any problems.

Hey, again...thanks so much for the info on this and I would welcome any other suggestions and or comments. Your input is appreciated

I just got a CS Safe Keeper II the other day; I love it but it's HUGE. It's really more of a boot knife with a push handle. If you're looking for a push dagger you can actually conceal I'd get something smaller like a Safe Maker II. I wouldn't want to stick a Safe Keeper II in my belt unless I was Vin Diesel.

Thanks...Im probably between the safe maker II or the Benchmade model

again..thanks for the input

^^HA, yeah, I figured that out about 4 minutes reading the thread. Looks pretty devastating.

thanks again

I'd say go with the safemaker 2, I have the safemaker 1 and it seems too long, comfortable though.

The Safe Keeper I was even bigger. I loved mine and carried it pretty regularly. No trouble w/ concealment inside the waist above my back pocket. I am also intrigued by the notion that it has no use other than killing. I cut fruit with mine regularly, as well as trimming string and other non-lethal uses. It was about the best apple knife I've used.

Also, based on Esav'e post, it looks like it's time to move to New Hampshire, though South Carolina is hopefully going to remove it's CCW license requirements soon.
