Don't you think it's a scandinavian design given the full length leather sheath, and the brass stud on the butt end ? (no jokes please). Maybe a cork handle, it looks like a Helle :)
EDIT: As president, he would probably go for a Russian made knife.

I've seen something like that before, but I can't recall where. It's probably a Russian-made knife, that's obvious.

I know it's off-topic, but, it looks like he's wearing a cross around his neck in that first pic. He's a commie...right? Does he identify with Christianity???

No, he's not a commie. And indeed, most of the people in the Soviet Union back when it was still the Soviet Union weren't atheists, any more than a white guy dressing up as 50 Cent is black. :D Most Russians have been Christians for a long, long time, Soviet Union or not.

Elen- Thanks! Interesting.

Now back to those two knives... They don't look like scandis. They appear to be hollow ground. Are they?

Ha!... No he is not a commie. He worked for Sobchak who is one of the corner stone in Russian democrasy - like Eltzin for Sct. Petersburg and North Russia. He worked in Sobchak team from the beginning of USSR collapse. You seems like to affected by propaganda.

He is Russian orthodoxal this is why he has cross.

I think this like Russkie Palaty knife or something similar:

like this one, but his has stud...

BTW, Communist Party of Russia still exist (headed by Zyuganov) and has some representation in Russian Parlament and even Senat. But they did not play any significant role any more in Russia - just retiered people votes for them.

Thanks, Vassili

I like that "Vladimirskii", but I think I like the "Ptitsa-2" on your web page better.

Or maybe the "Arkhangel'skii".

They are all nice, I just wanted a chance to show off my transliteration skills!

I've heard Putin's no slouch in the art of sambo. Between that and the knife, I'll put my money on him in a fight over any other head of state, even Margaret Thatcher. ;)
