Putting to rest BM Axis AFCK rumors...

BRING IT ON!

while im not the biggest fan of the oval hole, i love d2.

ive noticed its showing up on numerous production knives lately. ka-bar fighting knives got it,so does the thorn, camillus did a run of EDC's and arc-lites in D2 (both only available through ag russell),now the BM afck.

cery cool

As I said in the other thread, I have not heard of satin blades. The information that I received said that they will only be available with black :) :barf: :) blades, but this contradicts the other information that I have read from Benchmade, on their web site, it says that you can get satin... I hope that they do made them in satin. BM must not trust it's customers to take care of their knives. ;)

Looks like satin will be an option! Thank you mmtmatrix for the info. You just made my week. Now if I can figure out how to get a few.

Travis from Benchmade just emailed me. Said he was incorrect and that they will only be offered in BT2.

Oh well, so much for the perfect folder. Not in so big a hurry to get one now.

That crap can be sanded off ya know. Don't let that stop ya from getting what may possibly be folding knife perfection.(for some of us anyways;) )

Awesome!!! Count me in. Benchmade has come close to perfection from the looks of this. A great design made better with the Axis lock. Wow...Yes, I'd rather have a satin blade and yes I would prefer the round spydie hole but neither is a deal breaker by any means. I hope these sell so they make a mini version also.

It would be interesting to see how similar the blade blanks are between the existing AFCK & the new Axis model - It might be possible to take the blade from an older model & retrofit it to the new Axis w/ minimal work, if they are similar enough.

Tip up? Then it's not an AFCK.

As the Good Book says "Let your folding knives be carried tip down. For anything else is from the evil one." (Maybe that's not the exact quote, but it says something like that.)

Agree with Chuck,
It will be like AFCK but not exactly the same.
So far my only complaint about Axis Lock is that it forces tip-up carry, differently the clip covers operating button on one side of the handle. The Axis Lock holds the blade's closed position very safely and firmly, so I can't consider this mode as unsafe with Axis Lock folders, simply I like it less than tip-down one.

I have a 720BT with tip-down mounted clip, and that clip doesn't cover the lock at all. IMHO tip-down is much better, because you don't need to change your grip or turn the knife to open it after pulling it from the pocket. Guess people like me will have to carry their new 806 to the drill press first.. *sigh* But there is really no technical reason not to offer the knife with holes for tip-down carry...

This fixes my two gripes with the AFCK lock strength (although it is the 2nd best liner lock (after the starmate) that I've ever owned). And tip down carry (I'm about 51/49 on this, with tip up wining by that one point). I must have one. And good steel choice too.

I've got two questions.
1-The website says 410 SS liners. Will this make the handle more rigid? The flexibility was my only(small) complaint.
2-Why would tip down carry inhibit access to the lock at all? The clip is on the back of the knife. The side of the lock bar that you manipulate will be exposed. Only the back side of the lock bar will be covered. I think this may actually add to the safety.
All this being said, I prefer Tip-up anyway. Oh by the way, I have
the Griptilian and I think that the second best thing to the round hole is the oval hole. Thanks for listening.

Wow.. that is so slick.. this is enough to set a man into a knife-buying frenzy. How long have how many people wanted one of these? Seems like forever.. So nice. Nice job, Benchmade.

Perhaps if the demand is there (i.e. emailing BM in mass quantity :)), they would consider BC1 over the BT2. What do ya think? You've gotta understand something about BM and their use of coatings on steels like M2 and D2... They do it because you, me, and everyone else here who'll be buying a few of these still only represent a small percentage of the total of purchasers. The "average" and the dreaded "sub-average" knife buyer is NOT going to know how to take care of their steel, plain and simple. Hell, you could etch care instructions on the blade itself and people could still find a way to booger it up.

BC1 would be a great compromise, since it would offer protection and offer superior adhesion to the blade, while also giving the blade a dull gray finish rather than the jet black. How'd that be?

Professor.

D2- excellent choice. Coated or not.

Egg hole- not much difference from the round. Given the blade size and weight, it probably can be wrist flicked open without much problem. Less likely to snag on pockets on the draw. (See Tip down carry below)

Steel liners- a huge plus IME. Open your AFCK and squeeze the scales together. Jello. :) Stiffer liners will help minimize the common blade rub and off centering problems.

G10 scales- good old stand by.

Tip down carry- the pocket clip will not intefere with the axis mecahnism nor the thumb oval if mounted properly. The earlier 720 series has presented none of these alledged problems. In fact, it was the thumb stud that faced away from the body when carried that snagged against the pocket lip. (See egg hole above) BM CS modified and sent out a set of these studs and no more problem. Thank you BM.

Blade grind- hope it isn' t too steep of an angle. Want a good slicer. Additionally, D2 is a bit tough to sharpen at 60 Rockwell.

Tip up carry- WON' T BUY ONE!! :(

I don't mind the oval hole at all. I have a 550 with the oval hole and it works perfectly. I also like the idea of tip up carry on the AFCK, but I'm not thrilled about it only being available in BT2 coated blade.
