Putting together a 'comfort kit' for my girlfriend

My girlie is finally showing some desire to go hiking with me. The picture threads here have certainly helped. We don't have scenery quite as beautiful as what I can find in there, but there are still a lot of nice areas for us to go.

Now, I want to put together a bag for her to take that will be mostly creature comforts. I already pack enough stuff for us and in the beginning, we will only be doing day hikes that consist of 5-10 miles. She is a pretty tough girl and she likes to do things like ride ATV's and shoot rifles, but I want to make her intro to hiking as easy as possible to keep her interested.

She likes the baby blue camelback backpack which also has about 150CU of storage. So far I'm thinking:

- Visor and sunglasses
- Bandana
- Hand cleaner
- Coated nylon rain/wind jacket
- Packet of kleenex
- Small bottle bugspray
- Small tube sunscreen
- Packet of baby wipes
- Fleece gloves
- Extra pair of good socks
- 3" folding Spyderco
- 50-70 oz water
- Few granola bars or baggies of trail mix

I figure I can carry anything else we might need. Any other suggestions of comfort items she might find useful on the trail?

Thanks guys!

I've got TP and I'm sure she'll pack her monthly needs items. Thanks for the thought though.

toilet paper and tampons/pads

Toilet paper is like gold!!! You can never have enough :D. You don't want her to have a bad first experience $hitting in the woods now do ya? It would be a shame to have to show the the old Pine Cone trick ;).

Tampons are also supposed to be good for bad cuts as they absorb a lot real fast.

edit: we posted at the same time

Don't forget a good women's mag. You might want to stop and fish per say, and she'll have nothing to do if she's not that big on fishin'. That's what I have to do with my fiance, lol. It's like bribing her to go and keep me company, "If you want to go with me, I'll get you a US weekly...and....I'll toss in a People issue as well." :D

Works like a charm .

Perfect, that's the type of experience I was hoping you guys could provide. :)

For foods, besides carbohydrate ready-to energy foods, some amount of meat or fish, better salty and spicy thing is recommended. Edible without cooking is better.
They also can be a very good emergency food in case of survival.

Does she like coffee, tea, hot chocolate? A small alcohol stove and pot would let you take a nice break and brew a cup or two.

A light mesh hammock might make breaks a little more relaxing. Flushable butt wipes are a luxury above TP... :)

Cut a bit off a closed cell foam pad just large enough to make a sitting mat. If you use a good one [pressure blown foam not that chemically blown crud], it'll take much more punishment. Bit of comfort, insulates from ground, guards against roids, handy when the ground is damp. Weight penalty isn't a factor unless you go over generous in sizing. I think of them as must have items.

Bite and sting stuff.

Vaseline. Comes in tiny tins. Use as lip balm – both ends, cuticle softener, removes eye makeup at a pinch.

Cotton wool makeup remover pads. They're a handy way to carry cotton wool anyway – stack 'em up and compress 'em with rubber bands. That you can pinch them off her to use for other things is a bonus, and they can give a hint of familiar comfort to a female.

Small metal mirror and tweezers. Again, universally useful for anyone from signaling to WTF kinda eye-bogey is that. As above, can also have a familiar vanity slant.

Witch stick. - Witch-hazel based product used as an astringent. Marketed in a lipstick type apparatus for targeting zits. It's also good for other things too. One of the most novel uses I've put it to is for when enjoying a few moments of air foot. Rub it all round and between the toes and flap them in the breeze. Very cooling and refreshing.

Female specific meds – Not gonna poke about in this one too much 'cos that's personal, just noting stuff such as Cymalon comes in sachets and is a good idea to have if you've got women on your team. I'm sure you can think of others.

I'd swap out the rain jacket with a poncho. The poncho has more uses! You can ussually find some in girlsh colors.

I have always found that women get colder much faster than I do. Always pack a Fleece pull over and maybe even some Smart Wool socks. Both can be very fashionable and then you can stay longer.

small 1st. aid kit
small flashlight
fire steel
extra long sleeve button up shirt
hat
sweat pants or jogging pant(wind blocker)

Take her to your favorite sporting goods store to see if something catches her eye. I got an AG Russell Woodswalker for my girlfriend and she loves it. She is also very fond of the Inova light I gave her.
