Putting together a 'comfort kit' for my girlfriend

I keep tampons in my FAK for gunshot wounds (old army habit) and makes me a hero when she has forgotten to bring hers:D

+1 on a fleece, women get cold faster.
+1 on a sitting mat as well.

Some snacks; salty and sweet.

Snivel gear is the difference between enjoying a trip and surviving one:p

Most people who aren't used to being outdoor want to go minimalistic the first few times. Better to bring a bit too much (as long as you are carrying it;)) and surprise her with some comfort.

You may simply use a gentle reminder to her to pack her own feminine products there... dont want to get off to a bad start.

Does she like tea or anything else that comes in the convenient singles? A little flavor in her water may be a good gesture to suprise her with.

Buy her a bandana.

Be sure and praise her efforts the whole time and tell her she looks good in her hiking gear!

Have fun!

Guys thanks for the suggestions but this isn't a kit for her (or us) to camp with. Just to spend a few hours on the trail. Things like a fire steel, hammocks, etc just aren't needed. Besides, I have those items in my pack already.

one of those little tripod stools, most girls hate sitting down in the "weeds' when just being there. its a nice thing. If you go where bugs are bad, bring bug spray, maybe a head net or even a whole hanging net. I have a hanging net i found in a GI surplus store that is french, it fold packs up to about the size of a pair of ankle socks, and if your out and the bugs get horrible, its a wonder to hang it from a branch, duck under it and be completely relieved for your time.

:) better to have it & not need it than need it and no have it....expect the unexpected ;)

If we were camping I would agree with you, but spending 3 hours on the trail those items are just not needed. I regularly hike with just a folding knife and a water bottle down these trails.

i have spent a decent amount of day hiking trail time with some female friends so that's where my opinions come in...

bring along a couple of marshmallows and have a little fire in a coffeecan if you can't have one on the ground. this is especially nice when its a little cooler out. roast the marshmallows and eat them...or just sit around the fire for a few minutes. this always seems to brighten the trip a little bit.

i agree that females seem to tend to get cold more easily. make sure that she has some extra layers. a hat, a fleece, gloves, extra socks and wind pants are good to have. or in warmer weather you can get by with lighter weight alternatives such as an extra base layer and a pair of glove liners. hats and socks can be kept pretty light and small anyways.

bring plenty of water. as prepared as they always seem, they never bring enough water and always have some of mine. for a hard three hour hike i might drink up to 2 litres. for an average three mile hike at my normal trail pace of about 2-2.5 miles per hour, i would probably come closer to 1 litre on a warm day, maybe less. this doesn't sound like too much, but just make sure you are well prepared with water.

it sounds like she isn't too "girly", but if she is i would suggest bringing along a hair brush and small mirror. sometimes females can be somewhat fussy about how they look even in the woods. it also feels good to get your hair organized and neat after an hour or two in the woods.

hope this helps.

i would suggest mostly using common sense and just make sure that she will be warm and well watered and well fed and you should be fine.

What about something like a pedometer so she can figure out how far she's gone and how many calories she's burned?

Let her build a bag from Timbuk2

My wife is buggin for one of these. am gonna get her one, and a pink Izula(hopefully) for some of her christmas gifts.

hahaha, she asked me the other day if a Coach backpack would make a good hiking bag. At least she tries though. And loves to hike.

A coach backpack . You could get a good sebbie for that ;). Set the money aside as if you were going to get it for her, then trick yourself into thinking you had extra money for a knife. It works all the time for me. *thinks to self* hmmm....I don't remember ordering this package with knives :D.
