Q: Are ALL Strider Folders (NON-Buck) Heat-Treated?

To answer the question, stellite is not heat treated. It's just grind and go.
Of course, it's not steel either!
Definitely do a Google search, you'll learn a lot.
Also look up dendritic cobalt, which is pretty close.
.
Also, I wish the angst ridden Strider fanboys would take their mall ninja gear and comic books and take off.

*** TO TLC -- My apologies. This post was aimed squarely at 3Guardsmen, and the name mixup is purely mine. Sorry about that. ***

Alright, 3Guardsmen. I can't explain your hostility or why you alone have reacted with so much anger and vitriol

Can you explain to me why, out of the dozen or so posters here in this particular thread, you are the only one that has taken such offense to the original inquiry and been so condescendingly aggressive in your responses? Everyone else has been helpful, and many have commented on the offensiveness of your replies. It's as if you're taking this all very personally. Here's a hint: You want to spout your opinions everywhere, and then go barking after anyone that has an alternative opinion or doesn't have the background in the subject that you might (or might not, for that matter) have. Do you somehow think that 700+ posts gives you the right to shout down or ridicule someone else just because they're asking for answers you already think you know? I don't know how anyone could define immaturity without citing that as a prime example.

So what about your post is "stupid"? There's your answer. With work shown on scratch paper. <***** This part self-censored, because after a few hours it seemed a bit harsh. *****> Have a nice day! :)

Please quote where I have been "hositle" or "aggressive"? I have certainly not gone back and "censored" parts of my posts like you stated (above) that you have. I challenge you to quote me where I was aggressive or hositle towards you. Can you do it? I would be very impressed!

Let us take a look at some of your posts:

Okay TLC, let's review. I ask a question in a forum. You reply with a condescending and ridiculing attack. I ask you to stop. You keep going.

You've voted twice now. Is that it, or do you plan to vote again? :jerkit:

I love that little icon. They should've named it after you.

Oh, and I almost forgot:
Thanks for the sentiment, Maquahuitl. I appreciate the support. But please don't get yourself censured or banned just because someone else can't keep their insecurities in check.

Oh, and to TLC: Nice, very nice. Not helpful, either. Just keep saving your confederate money... :foot:

If anything, I'd say the hostility was on your part, and better yet, with the above quotes, I can prove it.

As for me having expressed that I felt that the comment you made, about some Buck Striders clearly not having been heat treated, was a "slap in the face" to Buck and Paul Bos, well it certaily appeared so to me, as you have been a member here since 2004 (longer than me). Do you really think THAT was being "hostile" and "aggressive"? If so, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

If that was directed at me, I assure you, I am no "Strider fanboy". One look at my posts in Spark's thread should confirm that.

I will direct this at you.
When you see someone will 100 or less posts, don't expect that they will know much about knives. It was question that was never intended to inflame anyone or anything. Let's all just be civil.

A) The OP has been a member longer than me.
B) A statment is not a question.
C) Civility is something you should have thought about before making the "angst ridden Strider fanboy" comment you did:

Seems to me you should consider taking advice, instead of giving it.;)

If you substitute the name of any other brand, you would find owners that qualify.

And if you were to know the fan base of each, you would find serious, mature users, buying and appreciating the features of each. Even Dark Ops. I venture to say if the "immature" crowd took off for other parts, we'd lose most forumites here based on the opinion of the few grizzled veterans who have used every knife made in their lifetime.

You could be a mall ninja comic book reader in their eyes, but you don't hear it - maturity and wisdom allow you the grace to grow up and learn from your choices.

You might want to be appreciated in the same way.

I'm with Walking Man... WELCOME, and I hope you find more information here than you can shake a stick at as I did a couple years ago. BE CAREFUL it's an addiction not easily slaked!

Heat treating/tempering basically makes your Rc 40 piece of steel into something that'll hold an edge (Rc 50s-60s)

Annealing is the opposite

Thank you! Yep, I've noticed that. A lot of new terms and concepts to learn. Makes me look at the knives I have differently, from my custom Hankins hunting fixed-blade to my lowliest folders. It's a good education, though, and like gunsmithing, it holds my attention.

A CS note -- talked to the fine folks at Strider, and they've completed my repairs and sent my knife out to me. I don't have it yet, but it should be here any day now. That's two-day turnaround, which is great! Nice people on the phone, too. I always appreciate good customer service!

A. It doesn't mean he's spent more time here. He obviously knows less about knives than you or I do.

B.... It appears to indeed be a question:
is it accurate to say that they ALL are heat-treated?

C. If it didn't apply to you don't take it as such. But there is clearly a Strider attack-dog pack floating around out there. I will admit that I could have been more civil, but attacking the noobs is not something that I will never tolerate on Bladeforums, and I'm sure our moderators will agree.

WalkingMan,

Fair enough, though I never "attacked" the "noob", and I challenge you to quote where I did.

When I left California in Dec. of 04, and when Buck Knives left, They had enough stock to last till March of 05 when our heat treat was back up and running again. My Custom Knife customers eather waited till I was back in Bussness or they went somewhere else. I set Strider up at Certified Metal Craft a Co. I started back in 1969, They have state of the art Equeptment and are good at what they do. There is no Majic in heat treating, thanks to some of my customers like Jerry Hossom, Strider knives, and others I have been able to try alot of different procesess to find the best for knife blades. Mabee Im good at what I do, because I heat treat every knife blade thinking I might own it some day. Hope this clears up everything. Thank You. Paul Bos.

Hot damn! Now that's what I call a definitive answer from a reliable source.

That was cool!

Thank you, Mr. Bos.

Perhaps I overstated what I said, but there was clearly a condescending tone to your and other posts. I will leave it at that, and hope that this doesn't turn anyone away from bladeforums.

Specialized,

Greetings from another 1911 afficionodo. Let me just say as a pleased owner of 3 Striders that they make some wonderful knives, even if Mick often doesn't write very good English sentences:D . (That seems to be the ultimate problem here; which it was kind of Mr. Bos to clear up)

It's my observation that the guys who create with their hands - like Jeep rockcrawler builders - don't have syntax as a priority composition skill.

They're simply too busy making things for us to pay a sin tax on.

Ok, so I left a dangling participle, and yes, I'm tuning up the college boy's ride today. Jack of all trades, master of one.

WOW! Y'all should just stop talking as soon as Mr. Bos posted.

Maybe? Sir, your work is not good, it's phenomenal!

TLC you hit the nail on the head. DEFINATELY an understatment!

Mr. Bos seems always available to help clarify any misunderstandings about the quality of his work for his customers.

And using his services and advice, makers are sure to have high quality offerings to their customers.
