Quality knife with bottle opener?

To each their own, but why settle for a crappy knife just to have a bottle opener on it? I only say crappy because someone with first hand experience explained it' so.

Get a keychain bottle opener. There are some ridiculous titanium models out there if you're looking for clout or a conversation piece.

Interesting set of videos, and I have used many of them before to open bottles of Steinlager and Vailima beer. Some Samoan friends
opened bottle with their teeth, but I was never inebriated enough to try it myself. :D These days, I stick to soft drinks and my Victorinox Spartan.
A GI can opener or a key chain screwdriver will also work to MacGyver the bottles open.:D

Or a $6 Gerber Shard. Tremendous performer.

I EDC either an Emerson Mini A-100 or a Surefire Dart. The Emerson does not have a bottle opener, but the Dart has a cool one. The only problem is that Surefire discontinued making knives and a Dart can be difficult, but far from impossible, to find. If you find one, they are usually being closed out, and w/i your price range. It is advertised as having a 3" blade, but it is a little shorter. It also has a chisel grind, which some don't care for. It is of usually high quality and locks up so tight, it feels like a fixed blade. There is not the slightest hint of blade play. It has an interesting "bar lock." I will admit that it locks up so tight that a strong hand is sometimes necessary to unlock the blade. Steel is 154CM. A lot of folks badmouth this knife and all Surefire knives; I don't know why, but it seems some feel they are overpriced. Now that they are being discounted, the price is reasonable. I will try to put up a picture later today.

Surefire Dart next to my beloved Emerson Mini A-100. The Emerson has a real 3" blade and shows the Dart for a comparison. As I mentioned above, the Dart is a brute in terms of strength. The Dart has to be a great knife to share pocket time with my Emerson.

what's wrong with laying a knife on the flat and just popping off the bottle cap?

or just get Michael Morris to make you one of his nice friction folders that has a bottle opener

Is there something wrong with the DPx HEST that people are trying to talk me out of it. Or is it because you don't want a knife with a bottle opener I shouldn't either? And that is a real question I am curious why there is so much talk against it.

I have a HEST/F Milspec and aside from the fact that it was in need of a bit of sharpening outta the box, there isn't a darn thing wrong with the knife. locks up tight, perfectly centered and very well made.

I have had the DPx HEST and currently have the smaller HEAT.. both are good knives, but the bottle opener/wave things don't work all that well. Resale value is decent on them

A HEST works perfectly well for opening bottles. Just whack the bottle neck across the pommel... done. A little broken glass toughens up your innerds. :D

On second thought I agree with the GEC Radio Jack suggestion. Probably much safer.

Maybe just pick up a Boker Vox Access Tool (or Atwood if you have the cash) and then you don't have to worry about limiting your knife choices.

DPx HEST/F Milspec is a great choice. Milspec has a better steel in Sleipner versus D2 for other models and pivot adjustment is standard hex bit. Another choice I have is the SureFire Crank (see picture below) if you can find one.

I have said multiple times I don't want to carry anything besides my knife.

Whatever.

Then I recommend the Spyderco Delica with an Emerson Wave. No clue how well it would work, but it's in the price range you set and it's on the knife - your rules.
I'd want to stay away from using any bottle opener on a knife that requires me to have to edge exposed (like the above DPX fixed blade).

Though I don't know that this was the intended use, the butt of my Benchmade Torrent 890 works really well for opening bottles. The process is the same as using a lighter, key, or any other blunt object - hold the neck of the bottle with one hand and lever the knife on your gripped finger to pop the cap. Given how hard the steel is on the knife, I don't think there are any marks, and I have opened countless bottles this way. Plus it is a really cool knife, though I have moved to carrying smaller knives.

Sadly, the idea that a person should be prepared to handle daily tasks with the tools in a pocket is an idea that is out of fashion. A recent post in Slate internet site is "How Does a Gentleman Open a Beer with No Bottle Opener" by Tony Patterson (Gentleman Scholar). He shows some nice tricks using plastic cigarette lighters, folded paper and other items but fails to suggest that the competent, suave, sophisticated urbane gentleman might carry a pocket knife to solve the problem.
