That's a nasty crack on the GEC, it shouldn't be acceptable on a new knife, stabilized or not. That type of crack wouldn't have flown at a budget US knife company years ago, no reason why it should at a premium one now.
That’s unfortunate, and in my opinion the knife should have been a store model.
I’ve purchased dozens of GEC knives from dealers and haven’t personally experienced any issues with natural materials, that being said I’ve always understood GECs warranty and after sale service to be so bad that it’s best to assume it doesn’t exist.
