Quality of modern Case knives

I have a fair bit of the Bose annuals, Bose CV and SS collaborations, some standard line CV and SS and I think one CS. Out of all of them, I was only truly disappointed with a PVD teardrop. I was able to put an edge on, the gaps and loose pull I might mess with.

Out of the ATS34, most are high quality with lots of snap, and as most aren’t crazy enough to carry these like me, came with good edges. The 154CM are pretty good, and high quality but I’ve seen why ppl say the most recent offerings aren’t as good. Overall, very happy with mine (acquired before prices went nuts). On the hunt for some non annual ATS34/154CM/S35VN Bose collaborations.

I have a couple old CV Case, which are very well made, and take a great edge. I have one that needs new scales but otherwise in in great shape prior to the 70s.

For 2000s to today, I’d say older Case are better. Long tail C, most of the time you’ll get the better knife. You’re not getting snap or edges or attention to detail like the Bose annuals, but a good knife for using. Especially CV. Attention seems to be given to CV, Bose CV and Bose SS. SS seem to be more for shadow box displays or getting all of a particular cover.

I got rid of all of my non Bose and Damascus Case about ten years ago, I think. Spent past couple years getting a lot of recent make 75 stockman patterns. Except for a single blade 6175, these have all been new Case stamp XX logo. Some came out of the box great, not just for Case. I haven’t had a bad one yet. Very surprised. Gone on a jumbo stockman kick, and have micarta, zebrawood, antique smooth bone, peach seed and just ordered an olive bone. I got a Tractor Supply 6347 that is a fantastic example of what Case can do. Waiting to get a really bad one, hoping this means Case has turned around. Most edges needed a touch up on my Worksharp benchstone but the 6347 was a razor.

In levels of quality:

Case Bose annuals
Case non annual Bose in higher quality steel
Case Bose CV
Case CV
Case Bose SS
Case CS

Case SS until the current year, that I’ve seen

Thanks, it is but I got the size wrong (you Americans with that outdated IMPERIAL measure ;) ) It's 3 3/8" not quarter. They are very handy and carry well but looks like jmh33 jmh33 suggests they're no longer in production  Must be plenty out there mind .
Yea, unfortunate they stopped making it. But I'll keep my eye out on the secondary market. And 3 3/8 is even better!!

I agree I am a logger, but think we need to switch to metric.
I think we're the only country that doesn't use it.

J jpvjr71 Oh I think the British still cling to it too :D they probably use furlongs, rods, polls and bushels 🤣 And they still put up with a Royal Family..

Nothing wrong with anybody carrying a very small knife or a whopper for that matter. Horses for courses or as Clint likes to put it

Wait until you discover that there are different definitions of the foot 🤣, and keeping them straight is a constant hassle in my line of work .

Also, antiquated units will continue be be in use as long as old land records continue to exist…
