I bought my first Quartermaster knife yesterday and never really see anybody really speak highly of them . Any Quartermaster nuts out there or have you had one and thought it suct nuts? If you got any pics would like to see them. I think they look killer. I have heard that the steel used on them is like 154cm. Anybody know if that's true also?

From what I understand just from reading forum posts, I think most people find the designs too clunky/"out there" and I believe there is bad blood between father and son (son now runs QM) and that he ripped off his dad a lot, and is kind of a douche in general. I could be entirely wrong about that, that's just what I've read, if I remember correctly. But I guess the personal stuff doesn't really affect the knives, if they work well.

Another issue is where the knives are made, the company claims 100 % made in USA but in another thread someone showed a copy of a bill of lading showing knives or knife parts being imported from China. It was pretty damning.

I'd heard that also. I think I also heard the head of QM doesn't carry a knife (not that that is a big deal, just kinda strange for the head of a knife company and all). But I'm starting to feel like a gossipy old coot and I'm neither gossipy or very old so I should shut up.

Haha you crack me up sometimes, Lynx.

While it's true that Quartermaster uses some odd designs, as well as shady business practices, I must say that a couple of their latest offerings have caught my eye; namely the Mr. Roper and Spicoli.

I've heard that they have good customer service, and have seen a few video reviews in which the people speak rather highly of their knives. As always, it all comes down to personal preference.

Which knife did you get, if you don't mind me asking?

I read a very good thread about Mr. Spicoli that seems to speak universally highly of it.

Whatever else can be said for this or any other company, I have to say I like little stories where one or two of their knives shine as quality product when most are frowned upon. Not that I am happy most are frowned upon, rather, it's nice to hear that sometimes a good product comes from such a company.

The only one I have any interest in is the Mr. Roper. Everything else is just...I don't know. They're not for me. I'd be interested to see their quality though.

A lot of their designs strike me as "high quality mall ninja."

I don't say that as a criticism, since the quality and materials used are obviously noticeably better. Just the way a lot of the designs look, seem to be for "the discerning mall ninja."

Which is kind of a cool market strategy I guess.

Effective marketing strategy? Yes. Cool? Maybe not...A lot of their stuff DOES look like tactistool mall ninja stuff, agreed there.

I was a skeptic as well, until I ordered the Mr. roper. The knife is flawless. The only problem is that I like it so much, I don't want to carry it and scratch it, ha. After receiving the roper, I bought the QTR-6TT. The design is more "mall ninja" than I'm used to, but it is an outstanding knife as well. Built like a tank, but still comfortable for me to carry. I'm definitely a fan and will probably buy more of their knives in the future.

Jimglover, would you mind posting pics of your Roper and QTR-6? I'd like to see some owner photos of these. The only reason I haven't bought one of the Quartermaster knives yet (I really love the way the Roper looks) is that they seem like an offshoot of Mantis...and with Mantis' track record...it's all just a little iffy for me.

Hmmmm. Not liking hearing about their parts being made in China and labeling them as USA made. Though starting to realize that Spyderco's finest blades are also made is Taiwan so not a super big deal to me as long as the steels and materials are what they say they are. But who knows. Sometimes I wonder how many companies acctually use the materials they say the use. the fact fact the business isn't doing great and the owners don't carry blades is trivial. To me anyways. Although it doesn't hurt for an owner to have an affinity/passion for the items they create. Overbuilt is the reason they caught my eye. They look futuristic to say the least. Kinda like that. I have heard claims of problems with the locks and things but no more or less than any other company. Worried about the steel cause heard it's similar to 154cm which I'm not a big fan of.

QTR6. Never looked at their website til now. Mr. Roper defineately looks like a good one. Anybody seen the Mr. Furley? It's shaped like a damn shark. lol Most are way to big and just designed with looks more in mind than performance IMO. There is a few more I would not mind having though. If like the QRT6 might try a Hannibal, CSE2, Roper.

No thanks. It's Mantis reborn.
You need to read the thread to find the facts. Shipping manifests from China that include knife parts isn't enough? If you don't care then no need for proof I guess.
